They came for some reasons such as, search for economic relief, and freedom from religous persecution. As a result of all the immigrants, Americans formed lots of hopes and fears about immigrants. Some of those hopes are that they would work for cheap, could give politicians more votes, and were more people to pay taxes to government officials. Some of the fears included the fact that immigrants brought diseases into America, created overcrowding, and took the jobs of Americans, or forced them to work for cheaper.
