Oppression is when a single person or group of people are subject to unjust treatment, and it just so happens that the Immokalee workers have been oppressed. It has become so vigilant that abuse of the common man is common and wealth bringing. Not a single generation of people have been left unoppressed; whether it was the Homosexual community in the 1950’s or the Black community in the 1960’s. The new faces of oppression are those that have no face and hold the weakest voice. Do not look at the job application or ask what the pay is like because the road of an Immokalee farmhand is a road with potholes, spikes, and marauders. Throughout the majority of the film, I saw, facts pushed forward to explain why the workers are paid so little and how that affect their livelihood. Corporations like Publix and Kroger are the dominate the marketing in groceries by cutting prices as low as possible in order to hurt competition. Doing this does not hurt the company very much because they can make up what they lose by raising the price in another area such as the candy or meats. Lowering the prices does not hurt the company but it does show harm to farmers and farmhands because they are only paid once the company agrees to the price of the farm. If the company does not agree to the pricing they can go another farm. There is inequality between the company and farmhand with the farm owner caught in the middle. The company has more care for profit than employees.

I can not say what your big takeaway was or how it change after your second or third time watching this documentary but for me, the takeaway was front and center. Instead of just taking the view of a single chapter I will look at everything I have read and viewed overall. There is no justice in the world only settlements and lies. The best way to not come out as a victim is to step up and make a change just as the workers did for themselves. There may be greater takeaways but this is what I say in the
