Fabs and fashion change all the time! Especially middle school fabs. Fashion is a huge part of the middle school experience. Something can go from super cool to super weird very quickly. Like how bootcut jeans were cool in the early 2000's but now they've been replaced with skinny jeans. One major middle school fashion trend of 2016 are Converse and Nikes sneakers. You can't walk to your next class without seeing people wear them, they're everywhere! Brands like Amercican Eagle, Aeropostale, and PINK also have been extremely popular in middle school. In Ralph Ellison’s Short story, Battle Royal, the author uses the main character to demonstrate how difficult it is to break a never-ending cycle. The story of Battle Royal is a depiction of what many black men faced in that time. The narrator is living a 1930’s Alabama and has recently graduated from high school at the top of his class. A lot can be said by just what you wear. It’s once thing that people are judged on. “Support of the music industry and the individual artist and bands can be seen everywhere, one chest at a time. Music related or influenced fashions accounts for nearly a quarter of all clothing sales to teenagers ages 12-19. However clothing is the just the beginning of the influence”. (“How music influences your teen’s fashion”, Family.go.com). Its true that many artists have crated fashion tends such as snapbacks and tattoos. One rapper named Lil Wayne has his own clothing brand called TruckFit, which has trended largely in the last few months and it can be seen in schools all over. This creates many types of groups among teens and makes outcast. Teens separate themselves into groups based on music and fashion most of the time because we like to hang out with people who have the same interest as us. “White students who listened to ethnically diverse Top 40 pop music showed equal support for groups focused on whites, African Americans, Arab Americans, and Latino Americans.” (“Rock, pop, White power: How music influences support for ethnic groups, Eurekalert.org.). This relates to them all listening to similar music which will show in there fashion and cliques. It is nature to be around what makes you comfortable so humans seek out similarity. That is why the fashion among teens has…

A few famous clothes trends were paper dresses, cutouts, and mini skirts. These trends really defined the 60’s and when you see it often makes you think of this decade. As research shows “By the spring of 1967 paper dresses were a full flung fad” (“Trends of the mid 1960s”). Also one major producer of clothes Hallmark introduced paper dresses, and also made plates, gift wrap, napkins, and placemats with the same pattern as the dress for a complete party theme”(“Trends of the mid-1960’s”). Mini skirts also became very popular and many saw them as a sign of justice because they were cut 8 or 9 inches above the knee (Connikie 41). Many people wore these new clothes to fit in and feel free and rebellious. They also wore them to show who they were and what their personality was like. The 1960’s were a decade of very interesting and funky clothes that almost everyone had hanging in their closet at some point during this time…

This June, for her eighth-grade graduation, my daughter debated between a slinky blue dress with a plunging neckline which to me had more of a lounge singer look than a middle school look and a flowery cotton print that was strapless but not low-cut. After much consultation with her friends, she opted for the strapless and decided to top it with a sedate, white cardigan sweater. What had happened to teen dressing in those intervening in such a short amount of time?…

The counter - Culture decade was a decade of huge change in the fashion industry, and every item produced was intended to challenge the social dress norms of the conservative previous decade. The youth of the time also would wear these unusual pieces to encourage leading issues like sexual liberality and often hippies would dress in colour and mixed gender clothing in support of peace and freedom. The 1960s was an important decade for fashion because it was the first time in history that clothing was geared towards the youth market; and by evaluating the trends of today, it is evident that they are popular with or aimed at a similar market. An example of a leading piece that was released was the iconic mini skirt, with a hem line of 6-7 inches above the knee. The fashion trend took off and just about all teenage girls were wearing them. This fashion statements mirrored how society was changing. Mini fashion items reflected these changes, a skirt had been developed from the mid-calved length of the 1950’s to mid-thigh length in the 60’s, as each adaptation was made to skirts, the fashion item became more and more daring. The mini fashion, and less reactionary fashion of the 60’s has influenced modern society hugely. Crop tops, Body suits, denim short etc. which more extensively would have challenged the 50’s have…

Many schools have opted out of allowing children and adolescents to free willingly choose what to wear to school, and instead have strictly enforced a school uniform policy with hopes of diverting student focus to mainly their schooling. Those who believe it has a positive effect claim that with all students looking equal they have nothing, and no one, to compete with or feel inferior to. Children, and adolescents especially, will always want to feel like their own individual. Taking away their right to express who they are with something as minuscule a graphic t-shirt leaves the door for other means of self-expression wide open, often leading to terrible choices that could possibly hinder them later in life.…
