Impact Of Industrialization On American Society
American society hit a major transformation after the Civil War ended. Challenged, industries wanted to make products more quick and efficient. It would be an amazing change and it would greatly influence everybody. In order to do so, new tools and methods were used to improve the way products were made. There were a lot of inventions and ideas that contributed to the technology and industrial growth, such as the creation of electricity, expanding transportation, and industrialization. Electricity was one of the greatest inventions to benefit American society. It started in 1876 when Thomas Edison created the light bulb. The light bulb helped create central power plants which lit homes, factories, streets, and even large cities. It extended the number of hours in the day when Americans can work and play. Electricity also led to several new inventions. Samuel Morse invented the telegraph in 1896 that sent messages over wire. Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in 1876. Several inventions made for railroads included air brakes, a telegraph system designed specifically for trains, and refrigerated cars to help transport food. Railroads also played a key role in the industry. Trains helped transport large amounts of goods, allowed businesses to obtain raw materials easily, and encouraged new methods of management. Technology also helped find new ways of transportation. Electric streetcars, commuter trains, and subways greatly affected the people in major cities. Industrialization grew as the economy grew.
In 1880, American exports expanded across the world. It became easy to carry goods to ports where they would be shipped to many countries. The main exports were grain, textiles, and steel. Steel was important in the establishment of skyscrapers, elevators, and suspension bridges. The North and the South had a massive change in industry. In the North, manufacturing center sprung up, increasing the production of goods. In the South, farms became mechanized and were needed to feed the nation. There were a lot of inventions and ideas that contributed to the technology and industrial growth, such as the creation of electricity, expanding transportation, and industrialization. In the end, we met our goal of expanding businesses and improving technology. American society was forever changed. They both continue to grow at an amazing rate.
