Impact of Industrialization on China

Industrialization is a process that changed the farming and homemade crafts to making things by machine in the factories in both developed and developing countries. Industrialization caused many effaces in many developing countries in late 20th and early 21st century, each countries have different policy to approach to be successful, such as China. First, GDP is growth and people increase their living standard. People spend more money in their food, clothes, and living environment. Government created more opportunity for people to work, have a good education, and better medical health care. However, industrialization has poor working condition and poor environment problems. For instance, many workers have to work hard but lower wage. Also, there are many pollution effect people's life, such as water pollution, noise pollution, and air pollution. Although industrialization affect China's GDP growth and have high living standard, it have the consequence in poor working condition and environment problems.
One way industrialization affects China is economic. First, China became the third-largest economy in the world. Chinese GDP increased 777.6 billion a yuan to be 25.731 trillion yuan in 2007, which means grew 13% (Wu). Second, more and more jobs are provided to people, which mean they increase their income and living standard. For example, people spend money on recreational business and services. Also, people buy clothes not only for need and warm, but also they are dress up themselves. Third, government spends money to improve their children's education, employment, and medical care. For instance, the government tried to create more jobs and a good situation for people to work. The cities and towns have 10 million people was employed annually from 2003 to 2006 (BBC Monitoring Asia Pacific). In addition, the government tried to pay the tuition and provide books for rural area students (BBC Monitoring Asia Pacific). So that children can have a good opportunity to develop themselves. Moreover, the government tried to build up a good health care system to protect everyone, such as eldest, younger, children, and the disabled. In 2010, this system was spread out to the rural area (BBC Monitoring Asia Pacific). Similarly, in urban areas, over 200 million people get the benefit (BBC Monitoring Asia Pacific). Therefore, people have high living standard because of GDP growth.
Poor working condition is the second effect of industrialization in China. An example of this effect is the Apple factory in China which is product IPhone and IPad for trade. First, factories exploited but gained benefit from Chinese people. Apple only cares about the higher quality of products but lower cost of production (Chin). Workers have to polish over ten hundred iPod case every day (Chin). The CBS Sunday morning reports that workers have to work 60 hours and 6 day per week. Some of them may work more than 15 hours per day. Second, there were some factories employ the child labor. Apple became indicted because many children who were 12 to 15 years old work in the foxconn factory (Barboza). Under the case, children had little chance to see their parents. Also, they do not have a good education if they work in the factories, so that they have no opportunity to change their life. Third, there were many work injures that harm people who work in the factories. "One of the biggest suppliers was hit by a wave of worker suicides at several of its mainland Chinese facilities (Barboza).” Also, there were over twelve people injured and two people die immediately because of the fire in the Apple factory (Barboza). The causes of the accidents were the Apple supplies do not care about the safe working conditions. Those accidents could have been prevented if Apple supplies could provide a good working condition to protect the employees. Although people have a job to support themselves, there are still many unregulated industries in China, which have lower wage, superabundant time, seven-day workweek, and dangerous environments (Barboza). Overall, even though people work in the factories, they have a dangerous working condition.
Poor pollution is the third effect of industrialization in China. First, the environment has been getting worse and worse for many years. There were 36 environmental groups in China released a report accusing Apple failed to concerns the dangerous waste (Barboza). Also, there were many environment problems have been found in 27 supplies (Barboza). For example, the Apple gave diplomatic recognition that 137 employees had been hazardous by “a toxin chemical used in making the signature slick glass screen of the iPhone (Barboza).” Second, factories pour waste material into water lead to water pollution. Due to Apple factories fouled the river or other waterway, it was serious injured people’s life (Barboza). There were many people who live around the factories have health problems, people could not open the widow to airiness because it smell bad, they could not drink the water because the water is dark and duty. The cause of these pollution problems were Apple would obtain profit in China. These pollution problems could have been prevented if people consciously to protect our environment. The end, with the development of our economy and society, the issue of pollution has been brought to public attention. Even thought Chinese GDP is growth and people have a higher living standard, there are still many problems of working condition and environmental protection in recent years. Environment pollution does great harm to people’s health, such as causes diseases and death. To protect the working condition and environment, Chinese governments have done a lot. For instance, legislative have to protect labor’s rights and interest. Also, legislative steps have been introduced to control air pollution, to protect the forest and sea resources, and to stop any environmental pollution. Therefore, governments are playing the most important role in the working condition and environmental protection today.
