Yes, and at the same time a very resounding no. Bill Bennett attempts to make the point that America is worse off now than it was in decades past by showing statistics of single motherhood, children on welfare, average daily television viewing, and other “moral barometers”. What he fails to mention is that statistics gathering has become far more accurate in recent years. It’s becoming increasingly easy to gather data now, with the internet and a cell phone in every pocket in America than it has ever been before. Moving forward with a grain of salt, there is more than one way that someone can determine his data.…

Moral Changes Moral is a wide word, containing lots of meanings and cannot be defined in one form. Morals are constantly changing especially with the overexposure of media. There has been no study up to date to prove that morals have changed in relation to media exposure, but the societies behavior in the past 30 years have proved that there could be a moral change. A study compared the morals of American people between years 1960 and 1980 shows that in the year 1980 , 78 percent of young people do not have a sense of right and wrong, and 46 percent in 1960.…
In his article "Punishment and Loss of Moral Standing", Christopher Morris explain, in his opinion why the death penalty is a justifiable means of punishment. The author first defines what a punishment is by saying it is an imposition of some pain, unpleasantness, or deprivation for a committed offence. The main purpose of punishment is to teach, either the offender or others, that committing this act is wrong.…

Picture a gorgeous landscape of lush green, exotic flowers, and the bluest ocean you have ever seen. The sun gently warms you while you attempt to absorb the explosion of colors around you. Your'e patiently waiting on a Hawiian beach to meet with the love of your life, except your'e not alone. There are fifteen other women also patiently waiting to meet "the love of their life". This is the opening scene for My Antonio, one of the many reality t.v. shows that grace our television sets today. One might claim that this is an example of how the american morale has declined. Trying to find love on national television by having multiple prospects at one time. David Whitman writer of "America Is Not In Moral Decline" contests that the American morale is not one of a declining matter. He continues to go through a list of hand picked facts in the attempt to give his claim value and relevance. Let's take a moment to picture and compare America today with America 50 years ago.…
Some novels and plays seem to advocate changes in social or political attitudes, or in traditions. Note briefly the particular attitudes or traditions that Harper Lee apparently wishes to modify. Then analyze the techniques she uses to influence the readers views. Do not merely summarize the plot.…
It is no secret that the United States is on a spiraling moral decline. The overall morals of the people have been changing steadily since the beginning of civilization. America, which was founded on a spiritual basis, has been turning its back on the morals that this very nation was established upon. The United States has now become a place in which television, internet, newspapers, and media in general scream moral decline, as well as a place where parental discipline has dwindled away to nearly no form of discipline at all. The fact is: America’s morals are declining.…
The concept of justice is something that helps to guide most individuals in that they believe in this concept to make a loss better. Many individuals will see law enforcement agencies, especially the officers that work for an agency, to be the tool that will be used to garner their justice. Kohlberg’s stages of moral development theory can help to explain criminal behavior in that a criminal that acts out for a particular reason will not be able to understand the stages that are beyond the one that they are in, such as only being interested in pleasing themselves. Using this information, a plan of deterrence can be made for criminals and arrive at justice for the victims and their families involved.…
Both Martin Luther King Jr. and Niccolo’ Machiavelli had their own perspectives on what was moral and immoral. King and Machiavelli view what was morality right and how they would use this judgment in government and how it affected people in everyday life. King fought a moral fight against what was described as immoral laws to oppress blacks during an era of segregation in the United States. He believes that sometime it is moral to take action against immoral laws to get the results he and others that fought alongside him desired. Machiavelli as a Ruler, during a time when his country was unstable and constant political in-fighting, believed it was better to be feared than loved, and he took the immoral action of oppression to gain respect morally from his followers as a result. Machiavelli was a believer of the art of war to gain power, while King believed power was achieved in non-violence.…
Throughout the centuries, morality has guided the beliefs and actions of families as well as societies. It has brought them together but it has also torn them apart. These beliefs continue to be a dominant force throughout many societies, affecting everything from what people wear to how they behave. The progression of morality has been a powerful basis for societies. The spectrum of greater access to the ideas and customs of different cultures, because of technology mass media and entertainment, especially television, has resulted in a diverse cultural blending. As cultural ideas move with people among cultures, some beliefs seem to have a greater effect than others.…
It comes as no surprise that America has more prisoners than any other country in the world. Moral standards in the United States are much too low. Today, many US residents seem to feel that they shouldn't have to work and that they should just get everything they need or want from the government. People on welfare find that if they get a job, they may only get as much income for their unskilled labor as they received while on welfare. Because of this, they do not have the incentive to work, and they do not try to improve themselves. Then they try to get minimum wage raised, only to find out that everything else gets more expensive as minimum wage gets higher. People who get temporary help for disabilities, can unfortunately find some unscrupulous doctor who will say that the still need aid even after they have are capable of…
