Impact Of Sheri Vassel On My Life
Sheri Vassel helped me improve my life by addressing the situation I was in at home in my late teens and early twenties and helped me forget and disprove that horrible atmosphere. In the following, I will describe who this wonderful person is and some examples of how she helped shape me into who I am today. Sheri Vassel was one of the owners of Silverman’s Restaurant in Plymouth, Michigan. I worked with her from May 1988 through November 1997. When I left Silverman’s, Sheri was about 50 years old and about five feet two inches tall with blue eyes. Jerry Vassel is her husband and co-owner and they have three sons, Chris, Craig and Darren who all worked at the restaurant at times. Aerobics and ice skating are two of her hobbies with the limited …show more content…
Sheri made me feel much better about myself in a time when I was constantly torn down emotionally by my perfectionist Dad. Her positive comments were welcomed as she told me how wonderful of an employee and person I am and to not get down on myself because no one is perfect. She showed me countless times how proud she was of me and she thinks of me as a son of hers. I started at the restaurant as a busboy/dishwasher and with her positive feedback, it caused me want to work that much harder for her. This is a feeling that I never felt before and it felt great to be appreciated. The dish room that I worked in was cramped, musty and smelled of the garbage can that stayed there all day. The odor of that garbage can was from the remnants of customer’s meals which I dumped in there. Most would say that this would be the last place they would want to be, but this was my sanctuary from the war zone I had at home. She promoted me to a host and said, “It was difficult to promote me because she lost her best busboy/dishwasher.” This made me feel and believe that I am someone special. After about two years as a host, she promoted me to a server. She said, “I can’t hold you back. I will have an enormous hole to fill in my host staff, but you’ve earned this.” She gave me some opportunities to handle some manager duties before I ended my employment at the restaurant because she saw that I was thirsting for more

I was scheduled to give a 45-minute speech I had spent months working on – taking an 8-hour course down to a 45-minute review was tough enough, but when I arrived, I asked the program coordinators where the educational programs were to be held – her response was, what educational programs? She finally let us have some of the tables that were set for the luncheon – the entire time the caterers were setting up the luncheon, talking and crashing dishes……

I moved from Detroit, MI to Ypsilanti, MI, for a better living. It was December 29, 2008. I had just given birth to my daughter. My daughter was born at 9:45p.m, weighing 5lbs and 3ounces. I named my daughter Saphira Parthenia Franks. Saphira died at 36 weeks, due to still born. The doctor told me” Sometimes this happens without a reason and you will be able to have more children”. I already had my mind made up, that I would wait until I turn thirty to have another baby. I was heartbroken and disgusted with myself. I was already going insane from the deaths of my father in November 2006 and my grandma in July 2008. Therefore, I was not able to cope with their three deaths at once.…

In Gwen Harwood 's poetry, the changes in an individual 's perspective and attitudes towards situations, surroundings and, therefore transformations in themselves, are brought on by external influences, usually in the form of a person or an event. These changes are either results of a dramatic realisation, as seen with shattering of a child 's hopes in The Glass Jar, or a melancholy and gradual process, where a series of not so obvious discoveries produces similar reformation. An example of the later case would be Nightfall, the second section of Father and Child, where the persona refers to her forty years of life causing "maturation". For the most part these changes are not narrated directly but are represented by using dynamic language techniques to illustrate constant change in the universe of the poem.…

My supervisor gave me the opportunity to learn the ways of a good social worker, and the importance of being a professional at all times. I did not shadow my supervisor, as nurses do in their field, I actually did work and tasks that were assigned to me. These tasks were very strenuous, some more than others, but I was able to get through them successfully. I was giving the opportunity to work with the residents hand and hand. Working with the residents was the perfect opportunity for me to gain experience in the long term facility.…

Before she left, she thanked me for listening. She said that she had no one to vent to at home because of her husband’s medical conditions she didn’t want to be another burden in his life so she wouldn’t share her struggles with him. That day impacted my life for the better because it opened my eyes to the idea that people do not always want someone to talk to them, instead they want a listening ear. The service might not be huge, but it could brighten someone’s day or even save someone else a few minutes in their busy day. Her grace in all things she did stood out most. I watched as she was thankful to everyone, even swallowing her pride most times. I finally found out that life is not about always having it easy and people weren’t always kind. Beha said is perfectly, “if you design your life around pleasure, life will teach you eventually to do otherwise” (145). I was not always going to be happy, however how I dealt with those times is what mattered. The “Dutchman” metaphorically relates the Flying Dutchman, a ship that sails at sea with no destination, which symbolizes how “white” America ceases to recognize blacks as apart of the human race. Clay’s suit represents invisibility and alienation as it portrays how he attempts to assimilate into the white world, blending in and fitting in to it’s stereotype of who African Americans are. At the same time, Clay expresses his anger toward the same white culture he is attempting to assimilate into that is expressed when Lula judges Clay’s character. The theory behind the Flying Dutchman identifies with Lula, the white woman who seems to travel the subway preying on African-American males. Throughout the course of the play, Clay struggles with trying to blend in with the white people, internally knowing he is still a black man. In addition to the internal struggle Clay goes through, there is an external struggle with Lula, who represents white culture. Clay’s suit portrays that he doesn’t want to draw attention to himself in this white crowd, but merely blend in, even though he is the black man of which isn’t recognized to be of human as a white person.…

The issues focused on whether a soul exists or not; I personally think that we do have a soul therefore, I disagree with this statement ‘there is no soul’. The main reason to that is because I believe that our soul is our identity and without our soul we are left with nothing but our body which then leaves us the same as every other human on this earth however, the only thing that can actually differ us from other human beings in order to make such a creative world is by us having an individual soul.…
