Many young people suffer from the overly used phrase “low self esteem”. I would imagine that more than half of human population has at least moderately low self esteem. Even if a research were to be conducted, many persons would deny having low self esteem mainly because they’re too shy or too embarrassed to admit it. No one is born with self esteem, its society and experience that determine whether or not someone has low or high self esteem. This essay focuses on, the impact that society and experience have on a young person low self esteem.
To begin with, self esteem can be defined as how much you value yourself, your body image, and your talents. In other words, self esteem is the feeling of being pleased with your self. Body image and self worth are all related to self esteem.
Body image is a person’s inner perception of their body and self worth is the opinion you have for yourself. Anne Lyn Marie said that, the development of the feeling of self esteem starts very early in life, for example when a child learns to walk or talk they feel a sense of having achieved something. It is often being said that, young people level of esteem is evident in their behaviour and attitude. This is not always the case. Shy people are always appearing to have low self esteem. I believe that they just like to observe their surroundings. Not everyone has a voice to everything that goes on in their mind. On the other hand, there are persons who are loud, hostile and self centered; we would never think that they would have low self esteem. If you really took time to know this person, you may just find out that the characteristics that they portray are of low self esteem.
