Implementing Mission Command Concept In TPDF
To implement Mission Command concept in TPDF, there must be mutual trust and understanding between the Commander and his subordinates. Leaders must empower subordinates by providing them with necessary tools and skills to perform their tasks. They must also institute minimum control measures during the execution, by providing great autonomies to subordinates in terms of critical thinking, freedom of action and initiative.
It is important for the contemporary military leaders to understand that army philosophy of command is mission command which is the exercise of authority and direction by the commander using mission orders to enable disciplined initiative within the commanders’ intent to empower agile and adaptive leaders in the conduct of unified land Operations. Therefore, ways must be made visible in terms of how do the TPDF intend to effectively and efficiently implement mission command. Foremost, establishing a sense of urgency to ensure maximum cooperation and identification of a group with enough power and credibility that can guide the effort. Then, a clear change vision must be formulated and be communicated throughout the Department of defense to ensure the buy in strategy and maximum participation. Formulation of implementation strategy and objectives must be identified as well as creating of dedicated and skillful teams from different services so as to familiarize the members about this matter. Finally, the concept must be institutionalized and operationalized in the TPDF doctrine as it does not clearly manifest itself at present

    It consists of four basic principles: Plan, Prepare, Execute, and Assess. “The Army’s operations process provides a common framework for guiding commanders as they lead and manage unit training and leader development.
