In addition to slow learners, other students don't have the attention span. Most students are required or put into classes that they have no interest in such as the following: U.S. History, Chemistry, or Calculus. These types of classes cram information in about one to two-hour sessions. So putting a student in a class in which they have no interest in would further reduce the attention span. They would most likely be thinking "Oh, this is so boring and I have another fifty minutes of this." Think of a watching a boring movie for two hours. It wouldn't be very interesting. One may promptly day dream or go into La-la land and not recall what they have just watched, or in the…

A class dedicated on teaching a student to remain focused and take accurate notes in lectures would be beneficial to all the daydreamers, doodlers and dozers who can't listen to a teacher and stay focused on the words coming out of her mouth. I know the effects all too well. As my teacher begins her daily rant, I shut my mind off and let it wander around the room. I see students snoring in the corner and others doodling in their notebook or flinging notes to each other as slyly as possible. I smile at their antics in relieving the exhausting boredom of a class like this. Only a handful of students are actually listening to the teacher and it is evident that they rather be anywhere else doing anything else. With lunch just ten minutes…

Another reason, attendance policies do not do a good job of reflecting the importance of a class. Furthermore the inconsistent attitudes professors have towards them are confusing to student. Therefore, when faces with so many varying opinions on the importance or unimportance of attendance policies, students lose the basic point. However, every student should attend all classes. Not only are professor there to teach you in the first place, you paid to learn. Not going to class is essentially throwing money away while pretending to be a student.…

Many factors are not taken into account when making certain classes required. All students have varying interests and to require students to take classes outside the area they want to pursue would have a negative effect in the long run. It has the potential to create an unenthusiastic environment, especially for those who actually want to be in the class. To impose such requirement could have the potential to bring negative impacts to the school…

Some college professors follow the “not required, but explicit” attendance policy. Some professors make it very clear that students attend all classes, but it is not enforced through grade reduction. High school classes might have seemed better in the past compared to college. You might feel more comfortable in smaller classes than you would heading off to university, but that is simply from the comfort of your surroundings. You are familiar with your teachers and your closest friends are always by your side. This might create a friendlier environment, but branching away from the only things you have ever known will help you grow as an individual. Leaving home to start your life as an adult can be tough; however, learning every day responsibilities and making new relationships are two things that will benefit anyone who is getting ready to enter the “real world.” Students benefit more from college classes over high school classes because they learn responsibilities and create new relationships which help them to gain independence.…

Being absent ultimately causes you to miss the most essential parts of class. You miss class participation, peers, directions and test or quizzes that may be given on any given day of that class. Being absent is a way of saying that this class isn’t that important to me. As a peer in your class if I work hard just like you but you receive the same grade as I do but are never there, that doesn’t send a great message to me nor to the rest of our peers. Being a student requires you to attend class on a regular basis.…

First off, one of the main reasons I very much enjoy being enrolled in an online course throughout the semester is the time flexibility advantage and not physically being required to sit in a classroom. While enrolled in an online course you are able to set aside your own hours when completing an assignment and focus on your own time and then submit by the deadline assigned. You are able to decide when you want to complete an assignment and the hours of your choice could be during a lunch break or even late at night. As a full time employee I see the opportunity as a missing puzzle piece to my daily life; I love flexibility. In a lecture course there is certain time period to where you are obligated to sit in facing toward the professor and listen to their lecture for about two hours two to three times a week. I find meeting at a specific time period for an entire semester, can at times be very frustrating and inconvenient when you work a full time job. I am an individual who likes to move forward quickly with assignments and get straight to the point; I do not like to feel imprisoned in a classroom. I am able to view the instructions…

Stay for the entire class. You may feel like you'll just keel over if you have to sit there a moment more, but even if you think your head's going to explode, stick around. The first step in making better grades in college is your attendance. Just because you are in college doesn’t mean that you don’t have to show up for classes. In order to keep up with all of the lectures, handouts, and information given by your instructor, you must be present in class as much as possible, only missing when it is absolutely necessary. When you skip a class, you may miss some valuable information or handouts that are needed in order to complete an assignment or study for an exam. You may also miss any questions that you may have being answered during class time. Remember, you don’t want to be absent for class so much that you are not able to be absent at a time when it is truly needed.…
