Communication is an important aspect of our lives. It is hard to imagine a life where there is absolutely no communication, in fact; maybe it is not even possible to lead a life without communication. It is the foundation for sharing information between people to ensure that everything is understood and can be acted upon. There is more to communication than just talk and gesture. Communication is very important because it is through communication that we can share our ideas to others, express our emotions, show them how we feel and develop relationships among others. Without communication, our world will just be a big globe of silence.
Can you imagine a life wherein there are no interactions? No connections? Just nothing at all. Well, I guess maybe you’re thinking that it’s better to go outside the earth and travel to another planet and talk with an alien instead. At least you have someone to talk to even though you don’t really understand a thing you two are saying, right? To quote Karl Popper, "It is impossible to speak in such a way that you cannot be misunderstood". This is the reason why communication plays a crucial role in our world. From the moment we wake up in the morning to the moment we go to bed, we have to communicate. We communicate with our life partners, with our children, our family, our neighbors, our friends, and also with complete strangers we come across in our daily life. Through communication, we can connect with people, share information, give advice, teach, consult, learn, read and write, share values, express our creativity and philosophy in life, transact in business, advertise, etc. See? Almost everything that we do requires communication, especially now that we are living in a more complicated world where technologies are booming like mushrooms. And in order for us to be understood clearly, we have to master the skills required to be an effective communicator.
