His opinion echoes, based upon the findings at BU, that it is the cumulative exposure to repetitive head impacts that is most likely the main explanation behind CTE. He believes it is clear that something must be done to help solve this issue at the basic foundational level. In conclusion, the injury rate in the sport of football in relation to a child/adolescent’s vulnerability to physical injury creates a very precarious situation for a child participating in tackle football. The N.F.L created the head, neck, and spine committee with the intention of diagnosing, preventing, and treating any N.F.L football player that sustains an injury, including concussions. However, concussions remain a major issue happening in the football world and players continue to remain affected by them. In fact during the 2015 pre and regular season games, 271 players sustained concussions, making it a 31.6 increase from 2014 (Breslow). This set of statistics proves that the concussion crisis continues to increase because each year more players continue to become affected by concussions. Furthermore, it tells people that concussions don’t only happen in regular games, but during pre season games as well. In addition concussions regularly occur in highschool and little league football. As a matter of fact, around 47% of concussions occur in high school students (Sports). Which represents one of the highest percentages among other high school sports. This again proves that concussions do not only happen in the major leagues. The N.F.L also plays a major rule in these outside leagues. The New York Times stated, “the league’s public position could influence other levels of football because many college, high school and youth leagues take their cues…

The purpose of this study was to determine the knowledge and opinions on concussions of high school coaches from a geographi- cally large yet rural state in the northern Rocky Mountains of the United States. Few medical issues in sport are more important, or have had as much publicity recently, as concussions. The exposure gleaned from tragic health issues among professional athletes post- concussion has motivated college and professional sport agencies to modify and enact strict guidelines in the diagnosis and treatment of suspected concussions. Yet underdiagnosis and mistreatment by some (former University of Michigan coach in 2014) highlight the need for continued education and enforcement of the current guide- lines. Obviously, when a head…

The movie concussion was the first time of the correlation between concussions and football. As I read Nationwide Children’s article, “Concussion in sports”, allowed me to increase my knowledge. Throughout the article, the author categorized what is a concussion and how it affects players. During reading, I found that concussions are a serious issue in sports, because it can cause severe brain damage to an athlete. This is concerning because the brains is one of the most important parts of a person’s body and if effected it could change a person life forever. Furthermore, I found it upsetting that the NFL does not make the risk of playing football known. Although, I understand the NFL provides minorities with opportunities to become successful.…

Approximately 1.2 million people each year are affected by concussions caused by sports. All sports teams have trainers, and a trainers job is to get a player back into the game as soon as possible. Concussions can be hard to identify so they may be overlooked. Often a concussed player will be allowed to finish the game. This puts the player at great risk for a greater injury such as CTE or a major concussion.…

There have been several studies conducted on the dangers of concussion in youth football. They all seem to mention the same issue. The effects that these concussions have on the thinking, behavior and attitudes of the youth. Many of them begin to act out with negative or aggressive behavior, they underperform in school, and many often acquire anger issues. These results are alarming. I believe that for this to change there must be awareness of these negative effects and focus on the children and protecting them. Concussions are not the only dangers in youth football, there are also reports of children paralyzed and other severe injuries that can stick with them for many years and often sometimes the rest of their…

It happens every game, a player gets hit very hard and is injured in some sort of way. In the current days of football, concussions are the most common and most dangerous injury there is and should be given more attention to protect players and athletes. Whether it's short term or long term, concussions can cause serious damage to athletes brains and in serious cases put them in the hospital. While NFL players shake off concussions as not being that bad, they need to be taken very seriously as children across the country look up to these professional players as role models. Fan morale is also declined when their favorite players get injured and cannot play because of these injuries. Awareness needs to be raised so we can put a stop to these dangerous concussions.…

Mild traumatic brain injuries (TBI), otherwise known as concussions, occur in people from infants to senior citizens. A concussion occurs when a person’s head suffers a sudden impacting force, usually a blow to the head, and the brain gains momentum in the free space between it and the skull, and slams into the skull. Concussions are characterized by a sudden loss of brain function, and other emotional, intellectual, and behavioral changes. In today’s youth football program kids are being brought up to be hard hitters from the same age they learn how to say the alphabet. As soon as they are given pads and helmets they almost become fearless, putting everything they have into smashing one another believing all of their gear will keep them from injuring themselves. We must keep in mind that adolescents of this age are still going through major developmental processes. Without progressing this issue ethically and scientifically people’s lives are going to continue to be ruined. I am arguing the need for more precautions and awareness, technologies, and regulations surrounding concussions in adolescents playing youth football because not only is the current system putting them in grave danger of attaining concussions and damaging their developing minds, but it also paves the way for multiple concussions to occur throughout their football careers, and we see all this much better when comparing the youth league to the NFL (National Football LEague).…
