Importance of Healthcare Research and a Personal View
There have been many definitions of healthcare research. The “United States National Library of Medicine” states that there are many definitions that have been made by a variety of organizations about healthcare research ("Intro to HSR e-class: Module 1 - What is Health Services Research (HSR)?," 2014). There are three key aspects of health care, which are investigated by health services researchers, and they are quality of care, access to care and cost. The following is a definition of healthcare research that has been used by several organizations, since 2002; health services research is about examining how health care is accessed by people, the costs, and once people receive care what happens to them (What is Health Services Research, 2014).
According to Jacobsen (2012), health research is about learning and “discovering new information about the world” through investigating a subject carefully and systematically (p. 2). Health care research is important because it assists people with living longer, diseases are treated that could not have been treated ages ago and with the research medical treatments allow people to be treated based on research and not on guesses that physicians have made, which ended in being incorrect ("Why is Health Research Important? | Community Connect to Research," 2015). Because of public health and medical care advancements, people live approximately ten years longer than the people did in the 60’s and twenty years longer than people did in the 30’s.
Research has made it possible for people to be cured of diseases and or illnesses that may have crippled and or caused early death ("Why is Health Research Important? | Community Connect to Research," 2015). The following will show why health care research is important.
