Importance of Art and Music in Child Development
In the past few years budgets cuts have been illuminating very important things from our children’s school curricula. Art and music two developmental beneficial programs our future is now missing. Art and music are just as important as the ”common core subjects” such as reading and math .Art and music help develop visual learning, language, and motor skills that we use throughout life and they need to be placed back in schools.
Children learn a lot more from graphic sources and art and music teaches them how to interpret, criticize, and use their visual art skills. Children know how to use cell phones, tablets, laptops etc . . . . without their parents showing them how. It is the same with art and music. If children see a teacher for instants drawing a portrait, or musician playing a piano they gain interest and pick up a hobby. If art and music were placed in every school drawing more creatively , sculpting with clay and threading bead on a string which involves visual – spatial skills.
When teaching music and art verbal communication is always present. When dealing with art you are talking about the picture and the children learn about colors, shapes and learning descriptive words. With music the children learn about different cultures, different genres, different instruments, and the different sounds. Art and music has a huge impact on a child’s language development and they should be placed back in our school.
Art and music uses motor skills more than any other subject. When relating motor to art you can see fine motor skills developing. Grasping a paint brush using scissors, markers, crayons, color pencils they are all fine motor skills every child needs to learn. Dancing to music, making music, are all gross motor skills we need that help our children exercise their muscles to walk, run, skip, play. These motor skills are important and not every wants to play sports but still need to work their muscles.
