2 Practice Impromptu Outlines
Directions: You will need to do many practice impromptu speeches to effectively develop your impromptu skills. However, you are only required to turn in two practice outlines. Use this form to help you learn and keep the speech structure. You may use this page for your outlines. Each point should be only one completely developed sentence. See the example in the Lesson 3. Impromptu practice outlines generally should be written after the speech is given.
Subject: Sidewalk
I. Introduction: A. Attention: Wherever there are roads, there are also sidewalks; safer alternate pathways to travel while on foot.
B. Thesis: Like walking on a sidewalk keeps us safe from cars in the road, staying within the safe moral bounds, or keeping the commandments, will keep us out of dangers in life.
C. Preview: Here I will explain how sticking within the bounds, or commandments, that the Lord has set will keep us safe the Journey of life.
II. Body: A. Detailed example: We all know that certain things are dangerous and can harm us- Like smoking cigarettes has been proven to be bad for your health and can cause all sorts of issues like lung cancer.
B. Transitional example: Imagine if a parent never set rules and limitations for their children, letting them run around unsupervised. How safe do you think that child would be?
C. Audience application: We can apply this to our own lives with the relationship we each have with God. He is a loving Father who only wants the best for us, thus he sets boundaries, or commandments, to keep us safe. In a recent general conference address, President Thomas S. Monson stated: “there are rules and laws that help ensure our physical safety. Likewise, the Lord has provided guidelines and commandments to help ensure our spiritual safety.” III. Conclusion: A. Closure: Just like never straying from the sidewalk into the road will keep us safe from physical danger;
