In A Cappella Sing-Song 'Elon Is Coming Home To You !'

Instantly Ella’s reflection in the mirror glowed twenty years younger. Then for one whole day and one whole night, living only on an effusion of sheer joy she required no food, drink or sleep. After that every day was spent wondering if today she would see him.

Within this poem is a lovely array of splendid imagery that allows the reader to truly feel as if they were there experiencing the memory themselves. When describing her surrounds they are idyllic, and pure. Even the dangers of the trip such as the jelly fish, or the steering of the boat, are never referred to as scary or unsafe, but calm…

The short story “Plow Man” (2004), written by Jessica Grant, is included in the collection “Making Light of Tragedy”. This collection’s title is significant for Grant’s story because the narrator gravitates to comedy to deal with both the guilt and sadness he is feeling. This essay will take a deeper look into the situations where comedy is used as a coping mechanism to deal with the narrator’s guilty conscience including how he deals with the conflict of the wind and snow, the projection of his negative attitude onto others and his inability to let go of the material things still tying him to Jenny. The narrator uses comedy as a coping mechanism to help alleviate the guilt felt since losing his wife.…

The tough times of latter years had wrinkled the skin on his face, yet the old green eyes affectionately gleamed about the times ahead. He gazed intently at his gnarled hands which persistently provided reminiscence of the past. His aches were his constant companions, not friends, but always with him. His voice was slow as he stumbled upon words at times. But often he was overwhelmed by emotions that had been buried for decades. These emotions, however were destroyed in an instant.…

In the Mosaics Reader, I enjoyed “Eleven” written by Sandra Cisneros the most. On the 11th birthday, Rachel was humiliated in front of her classmates by an insensitive teacher. It recalls a similar experience that I had when I was in the primary school. In her essay, I can see myself in it. I am quite sympathetic to her feeling about growing up as she wrote “And when you wake up on your eleventh birthday, you expect to feel eleven, but you don’t…everything’s just like yesterday.” That is the feeling I have every year, especially this year when I became eighteen-year-old, an adult. On my 18th birthday, my appearance might grow older, but in inside I am still a little child. In this essay, she uses several interesting similes. My favorite simile…

After brushing her silky, blond hair, Grace Johnson slipped on a pink dress that complimented her ocean-blue eyes exquisitely. Good spirits were the only things in mind, for she was flying to Louisiana—alone. Grace bolted to the kitchen for some breakfast, but halted to a stop seconds later, after seeing something odd. From the corner of her eye, she spotted a shadow. Grace briskly turned around. There was nothing, just a plain, white wall. Grace’s heart sank down to her stomach. She quickly sprinted towards the kitchen,…

I stared down at my reflection in the crystal clear water. My chestnut brown hair that had never been cut since I was born was laying delicately on my face. It wasn't very long, only enough to cover my eyebrows a bit. I looked around at the place where I sat, watching the jade leaves dancing down from the trees. It was afternoon, about to be seven o'clock, the wind was blowing from the east, and gently flew past me to the west where it hit the ocean.…
