Reflective assignment
The task sounded quite easy. We had to build a structure from old newspapers; the taller structure standing was going to be the winner. Rich gave us twenty minutes to complete the task, we had to work in groups, and choose a name that was going to represent our work.
I was a bit surprised, but not necessary worried as I knew I was quite creative when I was younger, and I found myself thinking back at my childhood and all the happy memories that came with it. The fact that I was now working with people that I had never worked before got me excited. In a way I am a shy person and I saw that as an opportunity to meet and talk to other students.
I had fun participating in this activity, and I tried to make myself useful as much as I could. I was the one who brought the paper for the sculpture and at my return I was told by the other girls in the group that we were going to build a rocket. I felt a bit disappointed as they took a decision while I was not there as it was supposed to be a group effort, but even if I felt we should have chosen a theme more specific to our nursing course I had to agree with them, as in a group the majority rules applies.
I had done the drawings with Ria, while the rest of the group prepared the stuffing for the cubic base we were building. Using lots of tape we managed to put together our sculpture, with a bit of effort as the twenty minutes Rich allocated at the beginning, were not quite enough. Everything went well, and I was quite proud of the finished product. I was amazed how well we worked with each other, and I was quite proud of what we have achieved.
We had not won, but I cannot say it was a fair result either. One of the groups made a patient and I can honestly say that it was the only sculpture that was aesthetic, one other rule of the task we were set. If I could change something, I would definitely speak up: the winning sculpture was indeed the tallest, but from my point of view it had

Because of these intricate patterns and details, we can tell that these sculptors were not any joking matter. Human lives depended on each face, and tiny detail to be absolutely perfect and this was very complicated to do since each warrior was made using coiling method (based on archeological theories). No molds were being used, or anything that could make the job easier.…

After going through the chapters of the textbook I have come across two sculptures that has both similarities and differences. In chapter three I came across the Seated Scribe, it originated in ancient Egypt and was carved in limestone. The seated scribe stood out the most because majority of the sculptures in Egypt were kings or queens standing straight up with their hands placed firmly against their sided. Instead, the seated scribe was very relax with his legs crossed underneath each other.…

There were many great pieces at the Boca Raton Museum of Art that caught my attention. This was merely the most unique and original of all that I saw. I have always liked robots and this sculpture blends a robotic feel into a very human subject matter. The perfect form and simple, yet amazingly genius design complement the subject matter. I also like the clean finish of the reflective surface and the unity of this one, simple color scheme. When looking at this piece, you can’t help becoming a part of it, as your reflection is caught by the shiny surface. And if you stare long enough, you will see how much movement and motion each of the six men contain. Although this motion is definitely implied and not actual, your eyes can play tricks on you. The visual paths created by this implied motion lead you in a continuous circle from one figure to the next. The depth from the tops of the figures heads to the base of the central cube is exaggerated by the reflective surface, which adds to the visual paths as well. The central cube is amazingly crafted as a perfect, flawless focal point. The cube acts in asymmetrical balance to the figures, as they are sculpted in a fluid, curved way and then placed upon this very rigid, sharp-edged cube. The figures themselves are perfectly symmetrical to the point of perfection. So what does this all mean? Well, just from looking at the sculpture, I would say that the figures represent…

    3. Describe the construction of space. Is the sculpture a relief (high, low, or sunken), is it attached to or presented on a base, or is it freestanding? Is there a preferred viewing angle, or is the sculpture intended to be viewed in-the-round? Describe the relationship between positive and negative space in the work. Imagine the work has a central axis. How does the positive and negative space relate to the central axis? How does the sculpture relate to its surroundings (how is it exhibited)?…

Everyone is likely to experience some form of discrimination or prejudice; as is anyone capable of acting prejudiced towards others. On April 5th, 1968, a teacher in Riceville, Iowa named Jane Elliot conducted an experiment with her third grade class that dealt with the concept of discrimination; and was documented in Peters’ 1985 ‘A Class Divided’. The exercise originally took place the day after Martin Luther King was assassinated. The documentary is an eye opener to the world of racism and discrimination. Bucher (2010) describes racism as “discrimination based on the belief that one race is superior to another” (97). According to Bucher (2010) “discrimination is defined as the unequal treatment of people on the basis of their group membership” (100). Bucher goes on to say “treatment varies because of race, age, gender, social class or any number of other dimensions of diversity” (100). ‘A Class Divided’ exposes that discrimination doesn’t just go to the extent to the color of skin, culture or ethnicity, but discrimination can fall into any physical characteristics, social status, having a developmental disability, simply being a woman, and in this case the color of your eyes.…

By participating 12 weeks in ILS course, I think I learned what the Liberal Arts Education is and how I use Liberal Arts Education in my life. When I first came to ILS class, I actually does not have any desire to do any work in the class but just get a credit. I hope it would be a easy class that gives a credit just for attending. Therefore, I was annoyed by essay assignments and reading assignments at first. Additionally, since I was first time in United States, I was having negative stereotypes about White people. I thought White people considered themselves as better people than Asians, and I thought I would experience many racism because I actually experienced racism in the my first day of United States in Chicago. However, ILS class was the exact opposite of what I thought. Every one in our class were kind to me and they talked and treated me without any difference as they do to their white friends. It was so sensational experiment for me, and this incident give courage to go through my first semester of college with confidence.…
