In Her Shoes Case Study

Planning This student began planning the planning process for “In Her Shoes” the summer before the semester even started. This student first decided that she wanted to address the topic of domestic violence. After choosing this topic, this student considered several options for addressing this topic on a macro level. This student ultimately decided that the goal would be to host the “In Her Shoes: Living with Domestic Violence” simulation. This student contacted and met with the director and executive director of Hope Unlimited, an agency in Iola, KS that provides services to domestic violence victims and survivors. This agency was supportive of the idea, and originally agreed to present the simulation at Pittsburg State University. When classes began in the fall, this student presented the proposal for the event to Dr. Humphrey, and the proposal was accepted. This student continued during this time attempting to follow up with Hope Unlimited for details regarding planning for and coordinating the event. This student made many attempts via phone and email to secure details with the Hope Unlimited
This student needed to partner with an agency that could secure the simulation materials. This student contacted Hope Unlimited by phone and then arranged an in person meeting to discuss the idea. When this student determined that another agency would have to be utilized, this student contacted Safehouse Crisis Center by phone and received a commitment from the agency upon the first contact. This student approached Dr. Humphrey and Ms. Magee in person regarding allowing their students to attend the simulation. This student spoke with other students in person about the simulation, as well as speaking to Students for Violence Prevention and the professor of Global Women’s Issues.
