The Lusitania, a luxurious (unsinkable) ship, is currently sitting on the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. One of the many stories written about the Lusitania includes characters my age, Elsie and Frank. The author makes us feel close to the main characters by telling us that they had lost their mother. This means the father of Elsie and frank needed to care for them on his own. The Lusitania a supposedly “unsinkable ship” met its fate at the hands of a German U-boat. The author’s words make us feel sorry for these characters. Life isn’t going right for them right now when they need there mother close with them. The author uses phrases like, “The three of them sat there praying, Elsie looked over at a group of 2 girls crying, she said, “don’t worry god will save you.” This phrase completely changes the way I think about Elsie and the two girls. It makes me feel furious and helpless, that the three already had been going through tough times and then this tragedy comes striking right around the corner!!! In my opinion the author starts this article off really well, by talking about how tough the lives of these three had been and what …show more content…
they are currently going through. Next, let’s talk about getting further into this story. The author states the chapter name “Unsinkable”. I feel like this really started to make me understand how, not just Elsie, but also frank, and their father felt. I felt like I knew what every passenger was feeling when this started to happen. The three started to get confident that this ship was invincible, that this ship was strong, that this ship was “unsinkable”. The passengers seemed to have high hopes aboard the Lusitania; sadly this was all about to change very soon. The day was May 7, 1915. The passengers aboard the Lusitania were happy as ever, messing around, playing games, and laughing at why some people were scared about these U-boats sinking ships. Little did they know that right off the coast of Europe was a German submarine that would sink anything in its path? The time was 2:12 pm, a loud boom of streaks burst across the ocean! Elsie and her family were terrified of what was to come. Just a few minutes later another ‘boom’ they were being torpedoed not once, but twice! The passengers of the Lusitania were shouting with screams, while there was fire, and debris flying everywhere! Elsie and her father managed to jump off while frank was swept off into the deep Atlantic. The two were disappointed and mad about what had happened to frank. But, happily in the end after they had lost hope, they found frank in the hospital with two broken legs because he fell on one of the rescue boats instead of hitting the water with Elsie and her father. The good news was frank was going to be ok!! In conclusion, Elsie, frank, and their father were going through a lot in their lives.
It certainly wasn’t easy, but they all got through it together. The author made a huge impact on this story! It taught me a lot that I never knew about the Lusitania, but the main moral of this article sent to me, was that life is never easy and some things don’t go your way, but if you stick together through all of it you will be able to get through it, together. It’s like what the others said about this article “things will work out if you have the ones you love always by your side” This made me understand a lot. It helped me understand the true theme of the story “Attack at sea”. Now, come on let’s all go celebrate and remember the ones we had lost on may 7, 1915. The day that will forever change our
lives.
