Police brutality has been an issue in America now for quite some time. Recently, it seems to have hit crisis proportions. There are protests popping up in cities all across the country. Why is police brutality now in the national spotlight and on the tips of most Americans tongues? Due to the advancement of technology the last 15 years or so, people now have the ability on their phone to video record and upload to the internet, police officers that abuse their authority while making an arrest. There are many incidents of brutality that have gone viral.…
The solution to problem of police brutality must begin with an reevaluation of the police department as a whole. Law enforcement must make an effort to assure citizens that they trying to protect the community and show that they are not looking to intimidate people. Police departments should revise and reexamine their training exercises in order to provide a solution to excessive force. New training methods should be provided on setting and situations that usually lead to police brutality. Police officers should be trained on how to correctly use pepper spray, how to handle routine traffic stops , and how to handle mentally ill citizens. Although there has been some progress in training and the have introduced new technology such as body cameras there are still incidents of racial profiling and police brutality. With continued training and education within the police department, there will be less brutalities and…
I think we should make precautionary measures to limit police brutality. There are simple things we can do to cut down on police brutality so the justice system stays fair. Yesterday it was an Albanian woman at a traffic stop, but tomorrow it could be someone you know. Someone you love in the wrong place at the wrong time. It could even be you if we don’t do something about…
Police brutality is the unlawful use of power, act or authority by the policepersons on the civilians (Russell-Brown 2009). Police brutality is an unfortunate corollary of the dangerous job of protecting society from its worst citizens, an anomaly attributable to the characteristic of individual police officers and the police department (Holmes and Smith, 2008). The actions can be employed with either the use of firearms, other lethal and non-lethal weapons or the improper use of holds or restraining techniques (Belur, 2010). In the United States, the brutality by police officers has been passed on from the time memorial. Police have used forceful methods in trying…
Police brutality is a major problem in United States, leaving 500 innocent Americans killed each year. Police brutality will lead to americans revolting within the next 10 years because hundreds of innocent americans are being killed by police in their country, who are suppose to be “protecting” them. 5,000 people have been murdered by the police in the past decade. Studies show that this number is higher than the number of soldiers killed in the Iraq war! THese studies also prove you are 29 times more likely to be killed by a cop than a terrorist. The number of people getting killed each year by cops is scary and Americans will want to change that by revolting within the next 10…
My first reason to why Police Brutality needs to stop is because police officers are using guns more than they should. There is always another way to ending things. The police are always running to get their guns when they should just stop and think “Is this…
Police brutality is a considerable problem that has been growing throughout the country. Civilians have lost their lives due to physical police officers assuming they committed a crime. Cops are convicted for many crimes they are suppose to uphold. However, all over the country there have also been protesters trying to stop police brutality.…
In order to cut any sort of police brutality the solution is to make Police Officers wear body camera. Study shows that police officers wearing body cameras improved their behaviors and the way they manage the problem when out patrolling. Especially with Officers that have no experience in dealing with difficult situation. Body cameras can be use as evidence to a crime scene and check if the Officer did his part and the way he managed the problem. With the camera the staff chief can make any sort of corrections with his staff if they handle the problem in correctly. Before the problem can escalate into something that is not necessary. “Evidence provided by the cameras is also used to find wide-reaching structural problems within a department, which can lead to revising training, policies, and protocols.”(BWV SG) This is a great way to improve the behavior of the officer. Not all Officers are perfect and some can you a thing or two to remember how they are suppose to handle the…
Police brutality has been witnessed recently over the years in America. The topic has been controversial among communities that have seen brutality in front of them. I understand that police officers face many threatening situations everyday forcing them to make split second decisions and to expect the worst and hope for the best. Police officers are allowed and have the power to take any citizens rights away. One…
In order to help reduce this issue there needs to be more police oversight and a clearer line drawn for the police officers between protecting themselves and causing harm to the innocent, and more tests and training to determine if the police officers have enough mental stability to be deemed stable enough to posses a gun. If the issue of police brutality is not properly and carefully solved to make people on both sides of the situation content and taken care of there is going to become a massive rift between the citizens and those who are paid to protect the people. People are slowly starting to lose the trust they put in these people. The people of these towns put there lives into the hands of these officers so they need to fill all of the expectations and make sure to keep as many people safe as possible. This issue needs to be taken care of before to much more damage is caused. If society takes too long this issue may ultimately lead a large amount of destruction that could have been prevented. If society can not trust the people that are there to protect us the who should be trusted? The people need to stand up to change the amount of power that the law enforcement holds before it is too…
Police brutality is a very important issue that the American people need to deal with. Police brutality is now a really popular topic, because of cellular devices and other video recording devices. Without those devices police brutality would continue to be swept under the media's rug. America needs to come together as one and make the United States a safer environment for all of its citizens. Police brutality can be prevented and handled by the judicial system. Making new stipulations for the Police department all across the country, such as forcing police officers to take a sensitivity course, requiring officers to wear cameras on themselves when on duty, and having officers take therapy sessions…
Mass media has followed the events of police brutality, and their unrighteous killings which consequently have caused the nation to question the police. Many americans feel the treated by the police As of yesterday the law of integrity and social justice reform has been officially passed. The law is implicated throughout all states in the united states. After recent events concerning the black lives matter movement Obama thought it was pivotal to make one last assertion to the movement during his last days of the presidency.Congress had an early morning session for the reform discussion .The session began with many disputes arguing on the new reform longevity wise and cost wise. The new reform is about retraining police officers to create a better…
Police brutality has been happening numerous amount of times in America. Police brutality caused the Civil Rights around 1960s causing Martin Luther King Jr to make a speech about equality and Police Brutality to all African-Americans. He gave all races freedom and hope by making his speech about equality of races. Now the reason why I bring this up, is because most police are more likely to kill an unarmed African-American than an unarmed American. The percentages go high for Africans and Latinos.…
Alton sterling, Philando Castile and Gregory Gunn are just 3 out of 136 African Americans whose lives were taken by police officers this year. Those were not the only lives that were taken in 2016. Not only have these men lost their lives for unfair reasons, their families have lost somebody so important in their lives. Police brutality with black people is a serious issue. If these 3 men were white wouldn’t these stories sound different?…
