Women have suffered long enough but now all their suffering payed off with women's rights in many countries around the world. The whole basis of In the Time of the Butterflies is women’s rights and freedom. After Alvarez’s book was published, it spoke to many other women who banded together for women’s rights.
Standing up for yourself, even with the most powerful man in the country, sometimes good , but very dangerous. After Trujillo was aware of the Mirabal sisters, they had been on the radar and needed protection. Minerva even lost her college law license for standing up for herself.
No matter how free one may feel, there is always going to be a little entrapment or feelings of entrapment. In the story,Minerva describes how she feels trapped by her father and soon escapes that feeling, but soon greeted with the feeling of entrapment with the whole country.
