There are many dishes that are considered part of French national cuisine today. What does the real French meal consist of? Traditionally we speak about three courses, hors d'œuvre or entrée (introductory course, sometimes soup), plat principal (main course), fromage (cheese course) and/or dessert, sometimes with a salad offered before the cheese or dessert. French regional cuisine is characterized by its extreme diversity and style. Traditionally, each region of France has its own distinctive cuisine. French cuisine varies according to the season. Fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as fish and meat, can be purchased either from supermarkets or specialty shops.
Now let’s compare it with Italian food tradition. Italian cuisine is characterized by its simplicity, with many dishes having only four to eight ingredients. Traditional Central Italian cuisine uses ingredients such as tomatoes, all kinds of meat, fish, and pecorino cheese. The word pasta is also used to refer to dishes in which pasta products are a primary ingredient. It is usually served with sauce. Sounds delicious, doesn’t it? Each area has its own specialties, primarily at a regional level, but also at provincial level. The differences can come from a bordering country (such as France or Austria) and economics. Italian cuisine is also seasonal with priority placed on the use of fresh produce.
