A big inaccuracy in the story is the lantern signal. According to Longfellow,
“A glimmer, and then a gleam of light… A second lamp in the belfry burns!” According to Johnson, “ … to let others know incase Revere was captured.” This shows that in the story this was not correct because Longfellow thought that the lantern was used for different reasons.
Another misinterpretation in the story was how the story ends. Longfellow wrote, “The people will waken and listen to hear the hurrying hoof-beats of that steed, and the midnight message of Paul Revere.” According to Ames, “After the message was successfully delivered…” This proves that in the story that Longfellow wrote that he thought that the message was not delivered.
The biggest inaccuracy is that in the story there is one person but in history there were three people. Longfellow wrote, “He spring to the saddle, the bridle he turns...” This shows that he was alone. Johnson wrote, “...two other riders on the same mission that night in 1775.” This proves that there was two other riders to do the mission with him and not just Paul revere on that mission.
Many things people read are not true or factual. For example, this story written by Longfellow has many inaccuracies like the lanterns, the ending, and how many people went with him. This story was mostly fiction instead of history based knowledge.
