Chapter 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE

Introduction Many of the Filipino youth today chooses to pursue in the Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) course, this is brought by the past changing world as a result of the evolution of the different technologies and how the HRM employees are in demand in different well-known hotels and restaurants both nationally and internationally. Aside from this, most of the individuals choose the course because of dual opportunities, that they can practice their career either in hotel industry or in the field of restaurant management. Another is that some individuals possess a rearing for hospitality to other persons and the chance of going abroad as their ticket for greener pasture. They will be given also the opportunity to work in big ships and explore the different scenic views of the world. Individuals who wish to pursue a career in the hotel and restaurant industry can get their training at various schools in the Philippines. A program in hotel and restaurant management in the Philippines is usually a four-year bachelor's degree offered by different colleges or universities in the country. Some of the career opportunities in the industry include restaurant operations manager, executive housekeeper, front office manager, and caterer and business owner.
