Inanimate object in Aminal Farm

In almost all novels there are specific inanimate objects that hold much significance to the story. These inanimate objects tie in a complex meaning of the book. The inanimate objects in Animal Farm written by George Orwell are a wind mill and a barn. These two inanimate objects relate to the complex meaning of the work. These two complex meanings these two objects represent the way an institution in power can revise a community’s notion of history to strengthen its control and the pigs’ manipulation of the other animals for their own gain. These two objects are recurring symbols in the novel that help us relate to the complex meaning. The first inanimate object in the novel that appears as a recurring symbol is the barn. The barn at animal farm (Which later has the “seven commandments” and the pigs revision to the commandments) represents the way an institution in power can revise a community’s notion of history to strengthen its control. The working class (Which are all other animals on the farm with exception of the pigs and dogs) believes that history is on the side of the oppressors they are most likely not to rebel against their oppressors and there oppressive practices. Also the oppressors (The pigs) gain control over everyone and every aspect of the “country”. The second inanimate object in the novel that appears as a recurring symbol is the windmill. The great windmill represents the pigs’ manipulation of the other animals for their own gain. Instead of the urgent need for warmth and food the exploit Boxer and the other farm animals by making them do overbearing work to build the windmill, which will eventually earn the pigs more money and therefore increase their power tenfold. From an allegorical point of view, the windmill represents the massive transformation projects undertaken in Soviet Russia after the Russian Revolution. These two inanimate objects may not speak, work, rebel, or endure as the working class of the farm animals do, but they provide a relation to the complex meaning of the novel (Which is an allegory to the corruption of socialist ideals in the Soviet Union). These two complex meanings these two objects represent the way an institution in power can revise a community’s notion of history to strengthen its control and the pigs’ manipulation of the other animals for their own gain. Without these objects/symbols to guide us nobody would have ever discovered George Orwell`s purpose of writing about farm animals having a revolution.
