The Inca worshiped their ancestors they are extremely imported to the Incas.
They engaged in what they called ancestor veneration. They made sure that the ancestral body was kept intact. Mummified the dead and kept in the home or palace that they lived. It was treated like they were still living. The Panacea is what they called them. Some of the remains found were modified, there skull were elongated. It was only for a small group thought to be for the wealthy. Also found was the practices of trephination, where they would drill holes into the skull. The Moche people built the largest pyramids in the Americas. They were a small tribe that had engineered irrigation systems which gave them fertile land. They also lived near the coast so they were able to fish. They held strange rituals of human sacrifice and participated in erotic sexual practices. Grave robbers discovered El Brujo which contained paintings and art of the Moche people. The grave robbers that the Moche practiced sorcery and witch craft. The robbers also found a tomb with great riches left by the Moche people. Archeologists excavated the site and found a royal burial chamber which had. He was buried with both men and women along with loads of riches. The tomb provided a great look into the Moche way of life. The Spanish conquistadors invaded Peru in search of gold. On November 16th, 1532 shortly after Atahualpa gained power from a civil war with his brother, the Spanish attacked and killed nearly 6000 Inca. The Spanish, having fire arms and horses, things that the Incas had never seen before, were able to take Atahualpa prisoner and conquer the Incas. Atahualpa tried to bargain with the Spanish but failed and in the end they killed him by strangulation. Since the Spanish believed that mummification was sacrilege they had to have a proper Christian burial. Atahualpa and other mummies were eventually transferred and buried in Lima.
