The camera cuts to them in the garden sitting with each other. This is significant because this clip is shown throughout the film however, the children's faces are never shown and as the camera cuts back to Cobbs and throughout this clip the non-diegetic music is hear more and is much louder than Miles which suggest the music is playing a bigger role. The non-diegetic music slows down and only one key is being played and as soon as the key is hit the camera cuts to his kids turning around and looking at him, around them is just plain grass and nothing else so this is probably why it was easy for Cobbs to remember them like that. The kids then look at him and start to run to him, it then cuts back to Cobbs looking shocked and behind him is two light which look orange/yellow which signifies happiness and a lot of yellow is seen throughout the clip. As the kids run to him Cobbs totally forgets about the totem and doesn’t focus how long its spinning for and runs to his kids. The kids then say daddy and are really excited to see him and this is because they haven’t seen them in a really long time, this shows how the totem doesn’t even matter and how reality doesn’t even matter, it doesn’t matter if he’s in a dream or not, he’s just bothered about seeing his kids. Cobbs himself seems to blend in with the house and looks like he's been living in it because the house doesn’t really have …show more content…
As the camera slowly moves to the totem there are a lot of items around it and a lot of yellow is seen such as a yellow dinosaur, bananas and even yellow water where a paint brush has been placed but to the left of it is red water and is really the only bit that is red in the entire clip so even though all of the yellow surrounding connotes happiness there is also red and this red could me he is still in a dream. There is also paper so this was clearly where the kids were painting before and the white paper signifies innocence and purity which the kids are. Also behind the table there is a lot of windows with bars between them and bars can mean the feeling of trapped so this could mean the Cobbs is still trapped and could mean he is still trapped in his dream. It could also mean that the kids were basically trapped by Miles and even though he didn’t mean it they were trapped staying in the same house for so long. The sound from the totem is then present and the sound of it spinning is given off. The totem starts to slow down just before we think it’s about the stop the scene cuts. This creates a cliff hanger for the audience but it also gives them the choice to end the film the way they like
