Independence Day
Carissa Mariz S. Manalo LSL2 INTRELA Independence Day (1996) The basic encounter begins on 2nd of July when inexplicable aliens species launch an invasion against human beings and to destroy the earth. An enormous spaceship appeared overhead, but incredulity turns to terror as they blast down powerful fire beams all over the earth. David Levinson, an ex-scientist turned cable technician, discovers that the aliens are going to attack major points around the globe in less than a day. At this point, a determined group of survivors must unite to defeat the invaders and save mankind. Then 4th of July becomes the day humanity will fight for its freedom and became their Independence Day.

In each scene, you can see that President Thomas Whitmore, Captain Steven Hiller, David Levinson and other officials cooperate to each other in order to stop the aliens. The scene where United States of America wants to organize a counteroffensive and they are willing to bring down their shields, aircrafts from Europe, Middle East and Asia will work together with them. The President’s speech is one of the most important scenes in the movie, it states that-- “mankind has a new meaning for them. They can’t be consumed by their petty differences anymore. They will be united in their common interests. They will fight for their freedom not from tyranny, oppression or persecution but from annihilation. When the world will be united and will have one goal, they will able to live on and they are going to survive”. In addition, one of the most important scene in the movie is when the character of Russell Casse, an ordinary citizen of United Staes of America volunteered himself as one of the pilots who will fight against the aliens, he even sacrifice his own life in order to kill the enormous alien species. This movie focused on the theory of liberalism because it shows that they are willing to cooperate with each other in order to survive. The state is not the only key actor, other individuals also participated in the process such as ordinary people join the aircraft to fight against the invaders. They fight for their freedom to live on and in my own opinion, our country needs a president who can rally us like the one in this movie and we should work together. In order to achieve peace we must all think and act diligently. Conflict situations will still be present in any circumstances but as long as we cooperate, we can still managed and we will survive. I learned that we should be open-minded and willing to accept new opinions from others, instead of worrying of our own interest, we should worry about others and watch each other’s back.

Is Cinco de Mayo really the Mexican Independence Day? While most people mistake Cinco de Mayo for the day that Mexico gained their independence, Cinco de Mayo- the fifth of May- is actually celebrated because on that day the Mexican army claimed a victory over the French army in 1862 at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. Mexico actually gained their independence on September 16, 1810, 50 years before the Battle of Puebla occurred. The Franco-Mexican War began in late 1861; which was an invasion of Mexico by the Second French Empire. In 1861, Benito Juárez became president of Mexico. The country was in financial trouble and he was forced to put his debts on Spain, France, and Britain’s governments. Because of this, the countries sent naval forces to demand a reimbursement. Both Britain and Spain negotiated with Mexico, but France decided to take…

The Declaration of Independence, an unanimous Declaration o the thirteen united States of America, signed and agreed by 56 man “mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor”, became one of the most important and influential documents in history. This agreement is at the same time a statement of intent to renounce British rule over the colonies and an argument justifying the intent. The reason behind this declaration of independence was the King of Britain, George III, guilty of specific abuses against the colonies.…

The people of the Colony under the Authority of King George of Great Britain wrote the Declaration of Independence. The people believe they have the right to “abolish” or alter a form of government, when it becomes corrupt or denies its people of their “unalienable rights”. Under the control of King George the people of the colonies believed they were treated unfairly. “The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations.” In the Declaration many of the primary complaints among the colony were of Government. The King of Great Britain refused to give the colony rights or power to their own self-governing systems of the land such as passing laws. One of many that are similar is “He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.” Complaints like these do not surprise me because the country of Great Britain just like any country in control of a colony wants to maintain their authority and power over their people. As the colony grew stronger in complaints and demanded for more rights the King did not grant them their wishes because Great Britain wanted absolute power.…

The film portrays the battles between the French and English for control of North America in the seventeen hundred fifty seven, the third year of the war. Native Americans, particularly the Iroquois living in the area that the movie takes place, were the intermediaries between the two forces. The film portrayed the Iroquois as vicious warriors. The different nations of Native Americans had split allegiances between the French and British. The center of the story is the most notorious event of the French and Indian War; the so-called 'massacre' of British troops, women and children by the Hurons, General Montcalm's Indian allies, after the British surrender of Fort William Henry to the French. This is interwoven with the need for revenge on Colonel Munro by Magua. The desire for revenge is rather pumped up to keep the audience on the edge of their seats than keeping with a total historical view. The alterations were made with the Hollywood touch in mind for an epic masterpiece.…

In the first two paragraphs of the Declaration of Independence, it states that every human is created equally by God. The colonist argument for freedom is the Laws of Nature and God impel them separate from the injustice that Britain was enforcing on them. The colonies have grown to be independent because of Britain’s loose rule on them, until Britain needed funds to support their war against France. There were also many other injustices the colonist felt like “taxation without representation”. Since the colonist were paying taxes to Britain they felt that should run under their own legislatures and to have a say in the main government issues, especially in the colonies. This later fueled the colonist to the “Boston Tea Party” act.…

The Declaration of Independence proclaimed, “All men are created equal.” In 1776 between the conflicts of racism, discrimination against women, and slavery, the theoretical concept of equality was more apart of ones imagination than reality. Women were not allowed to vote, marry, are own their own land. African American men were not allowed to own their own land, and along with their families, often were slaves to the superior white men of society. In present time, ideally, the Americans have the equal rights of marriage, heterosexually, property ownership, and freedom to work by choice not by force, but we fall short of equality when it involves race.…
