Jeff Cobb explains that people do not need to take classes or courses, de not need degrees or certificate to learn but the learning process does requires practice, reflection, social interaction and interaction with the environment. Learning does not happen consciously (pigmies in equatorial forest learn to hunt and fish without even knowing) but individuals who go to school put more effort at learning specific things. While learning is a process to…

As a homeschooler, I benefit from an unconventional academic experience. Rather than taking assigned courses within rigid daily schedules, I have the freedom to be an independent learner. I engage in interest-led academia, like the diverse World Literature course I created. My school schedule varies based on my responsibilities. I divide my learning between teacher-led and self-teaching. Since I pursue rigorous coursework, it is sometimes a challenge to balance that with extracurriculars and other responsibilities. However, I use tools like my self-created bullet journal to manage my…

I am ready for independent learning and to function without constant aid from teachers because I believe that the main component of learning is the studying and reinforcement a student demonstrates behind the foundational in-class guidance. This aspect takes discipline and self-control, qualities I exhibit through my character, which is then visible in my grades and results. I acknowledge that every teacher has a unique style of teaching, which can easily tip both ways in terms of how a student learns in a particular class, but regardless, this would not make such a big difference if every student went home to make sure they translated the information taught into information they understand. I prefer to come home and process all the material…
