In the passage, the author mainly talk about 3 points of Roman navy's attack to the Greek Syracuse, and show the impossiblity of the case that Greek use "Burning mirror" to attack Roman. The point of views are strongly argue by the professor in the lecture. First, the author states that Greeks' technology is not strong enough to develop a device like "Burning mirror" that need precise curvature, especially in the period that copper manufacture specification had not existed while the profossor argue that in that period, there are many cases show that the technology have strong enough that can even develop dozens of goods with more elegant shapes. Second, the author in the passage states that the time limitation is a big problem for the creation since a device concentrating 10 minutes to set the object on fire. But the professor in the passage states that the wooden is always on time. For example, water can quickly burn in secons even in moving. Third, the author in the passage states that burning mirror is not a nrcessory and effective weapons. Flaming arrows seem more preferable choices, but the the professor in the passage states that the burning mirror is more likely to be dramatic and shocking unlike the visible weapon of flaming arrows.

Nowadays, people are losing their concepts of "free time". People stay up late, or go to another region for better job opportunity while thinking the family time will be longer and the material condition will be greater. Working three days a week for longer hours is clearly a choice that most modern people would choose. When I was a little girl, my father always came back late at midnight. He could not see the first walk of me or enjoy a father-daughter time at afternoon. He can never sent me to schools like other parents do. All things he do is result from the promise he made " I will have more free time with you, longer and stronger." But the truth is, he can never make it. He did, has a longer vacation than others have. But the time he has, only exist in time that I'm at schools or I have camps to join. The assumption he made earlier can not be practical. It's not the fault of my father, instead, the case can be apply to the scenarios happen in many family that we are looking forward to have a brighter future instead of enjoying the happiness of now and get the feeling of satisfication. We are good at planing but also good at changing. People are likely to plan the free time of their long vacation so the motivation for them to staying up late and do work they dislikes is the plans that hope to achieve in the near future. But when the day comes, people will find there are too many reasons to quit. "Not enough time" or "Just too tired" ," Boring"," No need for hurry, there are not time limitation." We are good at dreaming instead of achieving. Using the time of daily free time, we can constantly achieve many goals and have a part-time job that we always want to do like a successful "LOL player" or a singer, painter. We always dream about we are about to do something but never consider I need to do now. There are so many disapointment about staying with family even just for a lunch time. We always think that in the future we have the abilities to achieving but we failed. I always dream about the life that I can have if I work five days a week for shorter hours. I can pick up my dear children and play puzzles or spelling bees with them. I can check their homework and be their best buddy that hear about the troubles they face and intelligently make changes and build a future together with them. It is also the time that I fix up the relationship with my father. He always tell me how sad he is and going to be when he figure about he miss all the interesting things happen in my life just because of the " saving time for future" job. I will spend more time with him and family so we will never feel bad about the time we miss with families and friends. It is always good to kiss your baby then see him or her close his or her eyes.

First, the reading says that the ancient Greeks did not have technologies sophisticated enough to make a burning mirror, which is supposedly a large sheet of copper having a very precise parabolic curvature. Nonetheless, the professor claims that a large number of small mirrors can be put together to make one big sheet of mirror having a perfect parabolic curvature. Therefore, there was no need to have a technology to make it from one large mirror.…

The boy had so many questions to ask yet knew to keep them to himself; he “wondered why not a big [fire]” (394). The fire that Sarty had been accustomed to seeing his father make for the family was always that of a small, shrewd fire. He tried to imagine what compelled his father, the man who burns down barns at the slightest sign of disrespect, to build such small fires. I feel like this is where we learn the most about Abner and his infatuation with this wild flame because the author boldly and outright tells us. “The element of fire spoke to some deep mainspring of his father’s being” Sarty exclaimed; “the weapon for the preservation of integrity” (394). We, the reader, can clearly see where Abner’s connection between fire and expression stems from in these two excerpts. Fire is the one thing that this man can control in his life. Abner acknowledges his control over fire by building a “shrewd” one this…

On the other hand, the professor believes that Greeks knew the advantages of using parabola. As a result, they not necessarily used a large sheet of copper. They could have used dozens of small sheets of copper and put it together to arrange a wide sheet of it.…

Growing up with 3 brothers and I being the only girl was great for me. I was always daddy’s little girl and really enjoyed by childhood. My dad was the world to me and I always dreamed about being a mother some day and giving my baby the same love and attention that my dad would give me. I was always surrounded my love and attention and my wish was my command. My daddy always spoiled me, but at the same time he would instill in me the importance of respecting and loving everything and everyone. He always told me learning to respect and also earning the respect of people was very important because it would keep me mindful and make me remember to show proper appreciation towards others and towards things. He also felt that by having my heart open to love it would make me a better person and at the same time it would lead me to a…

The current economic conditions has forced people to toil even outside the normal hours of work to chase the American dream. Andrew Curry page 261 stated “Today, work dominates Americans’ lives as never before, as workers pile on hours at a rate not seen since the Industrial Revolution. Persons who are not satisfied with their jobs continue to work just because they have no choice. Similarly, Americans have chosen “a path of consumption over leisure.” Curry, Andrew stated” Instead of working less, our hours have stayed steady or risen and today many more woman work so that families can afford the trappings of suburbia.” It is outlined that society is moving from the traditional roles where men go out to work and women stay home. Reason being economic conditions have forced women to join the workforce to maintain the household eliminating the time for leisure. Thus, Americans saw work as a requirement for survival rather than how it was before in the Industrial…

Furthermore, fire is another object that functions symbolically. For example, the fire Abner builds the night the family camps out before arriving at the de Spain mansion. The persona describes the fire Abner builds that night, and the fires he always builds when camping, as "neat, niggard almost, shrewd. This is an odd moment because the persona tells us that if Sarty were older, he might have wondered why his father built small campfires. At the end the persona…

My Dad is an extremely hard working person. He is always up and ready for the day before anyone else in my family and He is also the last person up always working on His projects. Just as much of a harder worker He is my Dad is also twice, even three times nicer than. My Dad is the most loving person I know, He has been extremely supportive in all my endeavors in life. He always reminds me of how much He loves me and care for me, He also sacrificed so much of His life to give me a better opportunity. He works selflessly to provide for my brothers and sisters all our necessities and goes the extra mile to ensure that we have everything we need to be successful. He always is there for me when I need Him. He would literally drop whatever He is doing just to hear me rant or if I need a shoulder to cry on. He never belittles me or my problems and insecurities. He constantly reaffirms me of my potential when I feel just like garbage. He is always telling me I am destined for greatness, I am priceless and worth more than the world to Him. Even when I hear Him tell me these things over and over I believe Him because He is extremely genuine. It is actually because of Him that I want to help people with my life. He always told me to never be greedy or money hungry, but that I should use my wealth to help the poor. He never looks down on people in a worse position than Him, He always calls other people our brothers and sisters.…

On another hand, fire is a symbol of hope. In the darkness the fire of hope will set them free, and hope is what has brought them to this journey. For instance, ’’ What is it, Papa? Nothing. We’re okay. Go to sleep. We’re going to be okay, aren’t we Papa? Yes. We are. And nothing bad is going to happen to us. That’s right. Because we’re carrying the fire. Yes. Because we’re carrying the fire.’’( page 87).An other example was when it states,’’ In the evening they tramped out across a field trying to find a place where their fire would not be seen.’’(page 92) The farther and son believe that fire is the protection also hope for them. My dad was extremely involved in my life especially when I was younger. I was a daddy’s girl one hundred percent growing up. My dad got me involved in all the sports I partook in. Encouraging me, giving me lessons, and helping me become better in any way he could. My mom was normally just there for moral support but my dad was the one to push me. He encouraged me to be good at anything I wanted to do. My dad played such a strong role in my life, and helped me become who I am today. The influences he forced on me created many of the interests I still have today. I feel as if I would be a different person if he weren’t there while I was growing up.
