INDIA OF MY DREAMS
INDIA OF MY DREAMS
Being from the sports background, I always wished my country to be the champions in sports in different disciplines may be Cricket, Hockey etc etc. My wishes were limited to sports but never thought of imagining India of my Dream in a vast context till the said topic was given for assignment.
While going through the sources, I happen to read Dr. Abdul Kalam’s question to one little girl, what was her dream for India? She replied “I dream of a developed India”. Giving a thought to what she said, I learned that her answer may be short but her dream was very big. Now it was a time for me to think of the same issue...that’s India of my dream. This is a topic, which is as deep like an ocean which has dangerous Sharks as well as the beautiful pearls. There is so much to dream about India; so much to cherish, so much to wish for, so much to hate and so much to desire about it. The real problem is what to write down and what to omit.
Before going towards the future, I thought to just turn aback n have a look at the India in past. India has long sad history of our existence as a country under the ruling of Mugals, Nizams and the most awful, the British. After the huge exploitation of our motherland by these emperors, India attained independence on August 15, 1947. What has she achieved during Sixty Five plus… years of freedom? Though there has been considerable progress, the overall picture of life in the country is depressing. What with spiraling prices and growing unemployment, the common man remains as poor as he had been. Though education has spread, its standard and quality have received a set - back.
Not is the political scene very encouraging. While the working of democracy is not satisfactory, the forces of religion, these Nakshalwad has become a a threat to the unity of the country. Our leaders lack the qualities of idealism, integrity and self - sacrifice, which were abundantly in evidence during the days of the struggle for freedom.

Being a developing nation, we have shortage of resources and a large growing population stresses them further. Let’s pause here for a moment and ponder over the fact that for once, a majority does not figure in the making of a sensibility, that is India. It is imminent that we then question what is national identity. Is it what we are, what we accept we are or the face we show the world? For the moment let us consider the utopian “what we are”. What binds us and makes us people of one nation despite myriad similarities and dissimilarities.…

The India of Tagore’s dream is a country where her people hold their heads high with their pride in knowledge and strength born of that knowledge. Where all countrymen must come out of their shell and not be people who have lost the vision of humanity by the narrow loyalties of caste creed and religion. Prejudice and superstitious which narrow the mind and divide people would be a thing of the past. Where the words of truth come out from the depths of the heart and are spoken out courageously in the open for the world to hear. People would work for perfections in the clear light of reason leaving aside all superstitious rituals.…

Long years ago, we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom With these words of Pandit Nehru, on 15th August at the stroke of the midnight hour India declared itself independent from the British rule. As the Union Jack was being brought down and the Indian tricolor flew up the hopes and aspiration of the Indian founding fathers were completed. Sixty years after the birth of this massive and diverse nation though there has been considerable progress, the overall picture of life in the country is depressing. With increasing prices and growing unemployment, the common man remains as poor as he had been. Though education has spread, its standard and quality have received a set - back. Nor is the political scene very encouraging. While the working of democracy is not satisfactory, the forces of religion, provincialism and linguism pose a threat to the unity of the country.
