Indian education versus American Education

Indian education system and American education system both are beneficial to students, however American education system is better than Indian education system.

I. The good education system is responsible for growth and nourishment of an individual and develops them into a talented person to fulfill their dreams and both Indian as well as American education helps an individual in many uncountable ways. This is the one common similarity in both the education systems. Below gives an overview on American and Indian education system.

A. American education is very advanced and different as compared to other countries. There are some of the basic concepts through which any individual can define American education in better way. For instance, the education pattern followed by American system.

1. Children are divided according to their age groups and grades.
a. Education pattern is segregated into three levels i.e. elementary school, middle school and high school.
2. American education focuses more on practical learning and under-standing concepts.
a. More emphasis is given to practical understanding, reading, writing, math, understanding concepts and documentation.
3. Students are not stressed on what they need to learn as they have freedom to select their class subjects based on one’s interest.

B. As India is a developing country and enlightening in all the fields, Indian education is also prospering every single day and appealing many people outside India too.
1. Indian education has always been inspired from historical background.
a. Education is related way back to thousands and thousand years ago.
2. There are different grades in which students are divided according to their ages.
a. The education system in India comprises of pre-primary, primary, secondary and senior secondary education followed by higher education.
3. Education system is less practical and extra-curriculum activities are not mandatory.
a. It is more about memorizing the study material being provided by the schools and academic performances of child.
b. Subjects are already pre determined by the school or college; giving a very little or no option but to study those pre set subjects which may not be as per student’s interest.

II. American education system and Indian education system have vast differences. The most important aspect of education system is that it should be flexible for all the students and American education allows students to learn according to their interests. Unlike Indian education makes everything mandatory for students.

A. Competency-Based Learning or Personalized Learning approach allows students to advance based on their ability to master a skill or competency at their own pace regardless of environment. This method is tailored to meet different learning abilities and can lead to more efficient student outcomes. (http://www.educause.edu/library/competency-based-education-cbe )

a. Blended learning means many things to many people, even within our relatively small online learning community. It is referred to as both blended and hybrid learning, with little or no difference in the meaning of the terms among most educators. In general terms, blended learning combines online delivery of educational content with the best features of classroom interaction and live instruction to personalize learning, allow thoughtful reflection, and differentiation instruction from student to student across a diverse group of learners.

b. Dual enrollment programs allow high school students to enroll in college courses and potentially earn college credit. The term concurrent enrollment is sometimes used interchangeably with dual enrollment, and sometimes to refer to a particular model of dual enrollment. c. Credit recovery.
B. The education system in India comprises of pre-primary, primary, secondary and senior secondary education followed by higher education. In America education system is centralized, unlike Indian education which is de-centralized which leads to difficulty in getting admissions for graduate and under-graduate degrees.

C. Under-graduate and graduate degree course is centralized in America, however in India it is de-centralized.

1. When it comes to undergraduate and graduate admission procedure, it differs from state to state and course-to-course in India. Moreover, there are different entrance exams for different colleges and different fields. Therefore, it is burden for students.
2. Indian admission system has different quota system.
a. It varies in many ways like caste, city of origin, types of high school education.
b. Management quotas and donations taken by colleges talks about the corruption happening and deserving candidates with lower middle class families faces problem because of less seats available. This quota is highly based on donations and not on student’s academic performances and abilities.
III. The second most important characteristic of education system is that it should be open-minded; Child should not be pressurized or forced to choose a career path, academic results etc.
A. As students are pressurized for academic results and it leads to hypertension and in many cases suicide attempts.
a. The ways it leads to hypertension and suicides because of competition, parental and teacher’s pressure.
b. The survey about students who get depressed because of academic pressure.
