The Native Americans had lived in America for generations. They were already here when the colonists came from Britain. Colonists survived because of the Native Americans’ help. When the colonists fought the Revolutionary War, some of the Native Americans allied with the British, but some fought on the colonists’ sides. Britain armed some Native American tribes to fight against us in the War of 1812, but some stayed with us the whole time. Settlers wanted the Native Americans land because it was fertile.
