Indicate a Person Who Has Had a Significant Influence on Me
Indicate a person who has had a significant influence on you, and describe that influence?

I was born in Taiwan, a small island near China. My family live there and I was lived there until eight grade, after that I went to United States of America for high school, because my mom wants me to learn how to speak awesome English. In my country, the educational system is divided into four part, elementary, middle school, high school, and college, there are still some higher educations above college, but most people stop at college. I was a straight A student until eighth grade, but then I influenced by a couple of bad friends. They were those students that never paid attention in class and talked a lot, always driving teacher nuts. Sometimes they would even skip classes and go to a comic book store. I was one of them for a long period of time, probably one year. Due to my poor decision, my grade dropped a lot. I went from an A to a D, so my teacher punished me with write hundreds times that I will get good grades next time, but I never do, I seriously hated my life during this time. One day, my Chinese teacher came up to me and said,” you are a smart person, so why are you hanging out with those kids? You should be smart enough to figure out that what you are doing now is killing your future. ” I didn’t care too much, but I said I would do my best to improve the situation. Still I knew I was totally lying. He said, “I won’t give up on you; I believed you can do it.” I smiled and walked away, kept doing the same thing over and over again. I could have really cared less about what was going on in the school, like tests and final exams. Never studied for them. After a couple of weeks, my teacher came up with a great idea, at least that’s what he thought. He tried to make a deal with saying that if I pulled up my grade; he wouldn’t make me to write those apologize papers. I thought yeah, why not. I said that I would because I didn’t want to make him mad by

All throughout school I strived to be a great student, always trying my best and never giving up. I didn’t really have any life changing moments that shaped me into who I am today that is, until freshman year. That year everything changed for me I was faced with challenges I never had to face before. My brother and I are three in a half years apart and he went to Horizon High School for his freshman and sophomore year. He was a troublemaker to say the least didn’t have the best reputation so all the teachers there thought that I was just like him. When I started there no one really knew my name and then once they saw my last name they started to be rude to me and say rude things to me. Even when I did good on work I still got a bad grade just because the…

At this point I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life after college and I didn’t even know what college I wanted to go to. I did not like the feeling of not knowing what I wanted to do as a career. It would eat at me, so I decided to just hide it away deep down until it would find its way out eventually with the right answer a year and a half later. My classes were consisting of required courses that I had no care for. Back when I was a sophomore, we were required to take chemistry in order to complete high school. My chemistry teacher was the worst. He did not care about my assignments enough to actually take his time and read through them and give me an accurate score on my assignments and tests. No matter how hard or little I tried, he would always give me a score of a D or C, Teachers like him are what cause the students to have this thought of, “No matter how hard I try, I will never be able to better myself, I am worthless in their eyes.”. That’s the message I received when I was handed a sixty percent for my semester grade in that class. That teacher didn’t care about me, he didn’t want to waste his precious time on me. Teachers like him are like the diseases in the education…

I was an unruly child in my elementary and middle school years. I often had trouble conforming and being apart of the class. The reason for this was because learning new concepts were extremely hard when you couldn’t understand the words being used. I had not learnt to read till the second grade and had a terrible lisp which caused me to fumble with my words almost all of the time. My education was being squandered all because I couldn’t understand. By the time I entered middle school, I was in trouble; I either had to try harder or risk being held back, and one teacher took it upon herself to try and change my fate.…

I was the kind of guy who always strove in order to get the highest grades but yet hadn’t decided what to do in the future. I wasn’t worried, I knew someday I would find something in what I was good at. I got to live with that thought for some time until I got to attend middle school, where I stopped worrying about my grades and managed only to pass the subjects. I spent most of my time sleeping due to the frustration of not knowing what to do in the future. Most of my middle school experience was tasteless. I hadn’t friends at all, and teachers used to discourage their students about their future. “You're not going to college, you’ll not be able to do it because you’re poor” used to say, Mrs. Vazquez, the math teacher who instead of giving her class, talked on how much his son had accomplished in college and how we would not be able to attend. That was about to change.…

One of my more enriching experiences occurred during my freshman year of high school. For years, I strove for straight A's, and for years I received them. Over time I constructed a mentality, and underlying self-confidence that I would receive an A no matter what. Due to my over-confidence, I was under the impression that I would not have to put forth much effort; however, near the conclusion of the second semester, I had a B in Pre-AP English 9. Despite my last push to earn a 90% in the class with the concluding assignments of the semester, my grade was finalized lower than I had wished for. It felt as if a five pound ball of lead materialized in the pit of my stomach. This experience, at first, devastated me to the fullest extent, and I…

As I got older and got into high school, things got really ugly my freshman year. Hanging out with the wrong crowd changed my whole perspective on school and how I should apply my knowledge to school work. I can honestly say that my highest grade was probably a C out of the whole year. The beginning of my life changing didn’t take place till my sophomore year when I met my older cousin who decided to be hard on me in school. Part of that was him keeping me into football and other sports he thought I would be good in. It wasn’t till junior year in high school where I really took football…

Not trying in any of my classes in high school was way different than not trying in junior high because they still baby you and will make sure that you get your work turned in, and call your parents if you’re not on track. High school will do some of that, but not nearly as much. After months of falling asleep and goofing off in class, first semester was over. All of my classes were passed with grades that my parents wouldn’t tolerate. My father gave me a father-son pep talk, the ones that every teen hates and doesn’t want to listen to, but I had to sit there and listen because I had it coming. My year was terrible, I knew how bad I did but I didn’t do anything to fix it. . “You’ve disappointed me this school year, son.” My father said. The words that almost no kid wants to hear come out of their parent’s mouth. It hurt me when he said that, not that he intended it to, but it’s terrible to have parent’s that hold high expectations for you, just for you to let them…

Sometimes in life, you encounter someone who positively changes your own ideals. Personally, that specific person would have to my grandfather, Earl Childers. He is the kind of person who always has time to talk to his grandchildren. My grandfather is the type of community leader who has provided hundreds of jobs to those in need, as well as given inspiration to many. While growing up, my grandfather was a role model to me. Without him in my life, then I would not have been able to develop into such an enthusiastic, young gentleman. As a result of the influence that my grandfather had on me, I have acquired the capability to excel in anything that I exert effort into. He has also shown me the importance of helping others; and, in exchange, I have received a better perspective on life.…

A person who has had a significant influence on me in my life would have to be my former foster mother, Miss Barbara Pratt. Ms. Pratt was a foster mother to many children before myself and she had had wonderful success with most of them. I had been in an extremely abusive relatives home before I had been placed in Ms. Pratt’s home. When it was discovered that I was in an abusive home I was first placed in a group home in Cincinnati. Social Services worked very hard to find me a home that would help me adjust to a ‘normal’ life as quickly and easily as possible. They found the home my older sister had been placed in, they contacted Ms. Pratt and I was placed in her care.…
