I happen to be a good example of individuality myself. I choose to have long hair even though it isn’t what most guys choose to do. People have asked me why I don’t cut my hair short. My response is simply, ” I don’t want to and I don’t have to, so why should I?” Some people, who can’t stand to to see someone else perfectly happy not conforming to their standards, get frustrated. In the long run though, I get more respect for not feeling like I need to be like everyone else than exile from those select few. More people should be an individual and not care what others think about it, rather than live a lie for social acceptance. This would lead to higher self esteem and an overall happier existence.
Being an individual isn’t hard to do, if you listen to your head and not what others say is best. When you look at countries where individuality isn’t as widely accepted, such as North Korea, You’ll find people live aimlessly and without purpose. Their purpose is drilled into their head at an early age; It is to obey their great leader. With such brainwashing, many don’t even know there is something better to live for. They spend their whole lives listening to someone else and never see how messed up their lives are. This is very similar to what people do today. They spend their life listening to their peers, and they never see how good their life could have been had they made their own decisions.
Individuality is an important part of life and is often covered up by a desire to “fit in”. If more people lived their lives as individuals, they would have more fulfilling lives and a greater sense of self-worth. In fact, the desire to fit in has been even more destructive to several generations recently,
