The theory that will be suitable to picture Indonesia’s actions in addressing climate change adaptation on CT6 is neoliberalism. As refers to the 12th edition of International Politics on the World Stage’s book written by John T. Rourke, neoliberalism developed in the 1970s and 1980s. Neoliberalism agrees with neolrealists that competition among sovereign states in an anarchical world system causes conflict. However, neoliberalism contend that the system is not early an anarchical as neorealists claim. According to neoliberals, the international system is anarchical, but growing order.…
Globalization has become a highly debated concept around the world. Globalization can be simply understood as “a process of global economical, political and cultural integration” (thefreedictionary.com). Today the world has become global and integral and all of its major parts are completely interconnected like in a tiny village. Globalization is an everyday process that brings a cultural unification and changes people’s psychology. Globalization is happening almost everywhere in the world and having various impacts on people. It is a process that is bringing the world smaller and smaller and also imposing a change on people’s cultural level. People’s identity is changing because of globalization. Globalization has made the world we are living today more complex and culturally pluralized. Many people migrate to new places and are forced to adopt a new culture. However, their traditions might not fade away because they will always be part of their identity.…
Canadian scholar Marshall McLuhan once said that the world is becoming more and more like a “global village,” each nation part of an increasingly interconnected society that stretches across national boundaries (6). Although he was talking about the role of new media in this change, he also was probably talking about the growing economic links that come with globalization. Globalization is a process that offers both the opportunity for a better world and the risk of destroying local communities, regional cultures, and entire natural environments. Over the last century, globalization has become a major issue in politics, environmental studies, and economics, touching every corner of earth as corporations spread. But Globalization is a broad term that does not necessarily mean one single thing. It usually describes the increasing interconnectedness of economies, political institutions, and individuals as the result of communication, transportation, and goods provided by multinational corporations. As Justin Ervin and Zachary Smith define it, “Globalization can now be seen as a process that ‘shrinks’ the world as human interaction ‘thickens’” (4). The effects of globalization are neither good nor bad; there are costs and benefits as with most things in life. What is certain is that no nation on earth has not yet felt the effects of globalization.…
The perception is that developed nations use globalization as a means to exploit nations which are under developed. According to the author, globalization benefits under developed nations a lot more than it benefits developed nations. As a result of globalization, in Indonesia, ‘per capita intake has risen from less than 2,100 to more than 2800 calories a day. Improvement can also be seen in country like Bangladesh. Globalization creates jobs, and jobs pay people to eat.…
The world has become a smaller living environment years after years. As people from diverse cultural societies, economic come together and interact easily with each other without any regards to race, color, religion, wealth, and gender. Introduction The age of globalization that we currently live in has certainly brought many changes to both our environment and the ways in which we live our lives. The process of globalization has influenced each and every one of us, some did not even see the changes coming and some have completely changes their lifestyle, subordinating themselves to the "globalized ideal". Indonesia is a country that is comprised by more than 10,000 small islands, each of them inhabiting people with unique cultures. As the world modernizes, there seems to be less and less tolerance for the peoples that do not live their lives according to the modernized globalization image. These are people from small communities that have lives their own way for centuries, developed their culture according to their needs and had seldom influence from the outside. Such peoples are today perceived as isolated, under-developed and primitive, because they do not modernize their habits according to the globalized image of the world. The Indonesian government therefore, in the search for modernization, implemented a program that would help the "isolated peoples" modernize. The cornerstone of this program has become development. Tania Murray Li has written an academic article that examines the process of developing Indonesia 's isolated population. By reviewing her work in Indonesia, one gets a better look on how the government tried to impose development on the people, the main aims of such a program, and the end effects. The main aim of this paper is to further debate such governmental development attempts. Through a more detailed look at the Indonesian case, one can get a…
Everyone experiences the effect of globalization and international transaction every day, as you wake up by an GE alarm which has made in china, then you have coffee using your Black and Decker coffee maker made in the United States, you check your Nokia mobile phone that has been designed in Finland, manufactured at the united states, using parts from Taiwan, and so on, it feels like we are taking a virtual trip around the world every day. By globalization, we mean shedding down the walls of distrust and the barriers of suspicion in between countries, to make a bridge where ideas and beliefs can cross the borders. Though globalization today primarily covers the economical side, the impact is not limited to the economy only. It actually affects every aspect of life, like cultural, social, psychological and of course, political. While globalization is seen as a sign of a hopeful future by some, there are others who believe that it can cause tremendous disaster for the world economy. The major boom at the information technology felid, also the ability to acquire talents with the off shoring solutions, and the drastic reduction at trade barriers by institutions such as The General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade and The World Trade Organization are the major forces driving globalization.…
Question 1: What political factors explain Indonesia's poor economic performance? What economic factors? Are these two related?…
Growth is essential for poverty reduction. However, growth may bring about one of two things; more equality or more inequality. The current pattern of growth in Indonesia (that leads to a widening inequality) could mean that the government will fail to hit its poverty headcount target by 8.3% by 2009. Looking at the recent past (past 10 years), there are 2 key pathways through which households and individuals have escaped poverty in Indonesia: (1) improvements in agricultural productivity in rural areas and (2) increases in non-agricultural productivity in both urban and rapidly urbanizing rural area, and alternatively by Indonesia’s structural transformation from agricultural sector to non-agricultural sector as some rural areas rapidly urbanized. The question is: what policies help the poor onto these pathways? First, is by maintaining macroeconomic stability. Second, is by investment in the capabilities of the poor. Third, is by connecting the poor to opportunities.…
