According to the European Journal of Human Genetics, 35 percent of the cases with SIDS occur due to genetic diseases. Some examples they give are: cardiomyopathy, ion channelopathy, and metabolic disorders, which are difficult to detect in newborns.
Ion Channelopathies is a disease that is caused by the mutation of one of or genes that is in charge of regulating our levels of proteins. In a study by the European journal of Human Genetics it was discovered that nine percent of the cases of SIDS are due to Channelopathies. This strain can cause the heart to stop causing death.
Lastly, Metabolic diseases only affects one percent of the cases with SIDS. A metabolic disease occurs when your body causes your metabolic system to be disrupted meaning that what is in charge of making our energy when we consume food is not working properly.
