Punk Rock is notable for expressing the artists’ true feelings and this is exactly that. That is why there is a huge supporting crowd around the genre because others are afraid to say it, but will rally with it. Lyrically, the song is very controversial and definitely not acceptable within the social norm, but that is exactly what punk rock does, avoid following the social norm. Similarly to punk rock disagreeing with the social norm, hip-hop also has songs that do not follow the social norm. Again, this is what gains a lot of the support because this style of music has not been a major factor before. Eminem’s song “Love the Way You Lie” featuring Rihanna was a very controversial song from the lyrics. In the song Rihanna states, “Just gonna stand there and watch me burn / Well, that’s alright because I like the way it hurts.” The lyrics explain an abusive relationship or an abuse in some way. This could also be about Rihanna’s past with Chris Brown, but regardless, before hip-hop this would not be in the music industry. But the confidence of these musicians is what gains the attraction from the public because these are real meanings, real messages from the heart and they effect everyone, not just the artists. The culture and area around hip-hop, which is the Bronx is also affected more by certain messages these hip-hop artists sing about. Since it is in the “ghetto” the poverty is much higher, which is why many artists rap about the difficulty of providing for a family and such. In Punk rock, politics is a major topic and the power of the wealthy is something many artists in the genre sing about.
