Information about the final exam has been posted. Further clarification with regard to some of the longer questions is given below. Please pay attention.
There are three long-answer questions 2 requiring 1/2 page and 1 requiring 2 page answers.
These questions are on particular themes which require you to draw from more than one article from Conformity and conflict including the Haviland text.
There is a question on women and politics and there are many areas in the text that deal with this; there is also a film on Jordenian women. The question requires you to consider the relationship between women and politics and the challenges various categories of women face.
Another question is on women and work and there are many areas in the course material that deal with this; there are at least 2 articles in Confomity and Conflict that deal with different dimensions of women and work.
Also, read the sections dealing with race as a form of startification; caste in India (film) and class and gender. There will be one question dealing with class, caste and gender and another on race.
Globalization is dealt with in a film and in the Haviland text and confomity and conflict - they are directly on globalization or on various manifestations (sushi), women migrants etc.
Social change is another area where you will be tested.
Please study these areas well. Unlike the short answers which are right or wrong, the long answers have some flexibility in marking and therefore you can score here if you are well prepared.
The marks for the discussion will be posted soon. please direct your questions regarding the marks to Emily since she marked them and has been carefully monitoring your participation and answers. These are bonus marks. If you did not participate, you will not get marks.
