Information Systems and Organizational Departments
Information systems and software applications are important resources for each department of a company. Each department uses its own software and information systems that cater to their department. This paper is going to discuss the information systems and a software application for the accounting, human resources, and marketing departments.
Accounting
A software application that an accounting department might use is QuickBooks. QuickBooks allows a company to organize all their finances in one place, easily track where they are making money or not through a wide variety of reports. Companies are able to create and customize invoices for their customers and keep track of their bills through QuickBooks. The information systems that an accounting department might use are computers, scanners, printers, and electronic communication devices for electronic data interchange (EDI) (2)
Human Resources
Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) is the software that a company uses for data entry of the business. HRnetSource is a software application that could be used by a human resource department (HR). HRnetSource allows the department to manage all the employees’ data from the day they were hired until the day they leave the company. This application has many time saving features such as the ability to attach documents such as resumes to an employee’s record and standard letters and reports built in (Auxillium West, 2008). Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) is the software that a company uses for data entry of the business.
Marketing
Information systems for marketing are a set of procedures that are used in analyzing and assessing marketing information for sources both inside and outside the firm (Business Dictionary, 2008). NetSuite is a software application that a marketing department might use. NetSuite offers marketing automation which enables a company to automate, track, and report on their marketing efforts. This software also enables the marketing department to create campaigns based on customer’s purchase history, provide reports based on total purchases, and helps improve search engine rankings (NetSuite, 2009).
The accounting, marketing, and human resources departments each have their own software application and information system that they use. There are many different types of software on the market for these departments; companies need to research the different applications to see which one is right for their business.
