Informative Essay
18 May. 2011
Osama Bin Laden Throughout my research of Osama Bin Laden death I have found out how each news channels supports or doesn’t support the fact that he is dead. I learned how these news channels have projected the subject and how they dealt with it. I got to see how each news reporter took in this information and how they felt about it. Many of these news clips that I watched were very similar but they were all also able to point out their differences on how they felt about Osama death. The four news channels that I followed were CNN, CBS, MSNBC, and ABC. CNN had a lot of information that they had to discuss about the death of Osama, but there was one particular subject that stood out the most to me. CNN focused a lot on Obama, a lot of the issue with Osama death was directed toward
Obama and if he did the right thing. Ron Paul who was being interviewed about his stand point on Osama death directed a lot of his issue towards the president. He continually questioned if Obama made the right move. Ron feels that the job could have been done earlier like in 2001. He feels that we waited too long to just now approach the issue. Ron states that going to Iraq to fight was just a useless battle, it was a waste of time and a waste of money. Ron feels that the situation could have been done a lot better but instead we wait this long and waited that much money. Many people are saying that that they
Santiago 2 believe Osama was resisting when they approached him, but was he really? Ron believes the story keeps changing, no one really knows the truth about the situation because every new channel has something different to say about his death. If the government would have dealt with the situation better then the story could have been settle now. When Obama was being elected many people voted for him because they thought that he was going to be able to end the wars and bring our troops home. Ron expressed how he felt that Obama was extending the wars and

The biggest breaking story I chose was about the Afghans heading to the polls to vote amid the threats of insurgent attacks. On the CNN website, it seemed like the story was less detailed and descriptive than the other sites. Even though it covered the situation in Afghanistan, the information was delivered in a more passive way than FOXNews and MSNBC, almost as if it was a more opinion-based article. I noticed also that some of the key points that were covered on the CNN site were also covered in the other sites. Information on how many candidates were competing for election and how many seats were available in parliament seemed to be a point that all of the sites included. One main difference in the information that CNN covered, compared to the other sites, was it didn’t discuss or report anything about deaths during the election process. While news of different attacks were covered, like a roadside bomb blowing out the glass of a governor’s vehicle for example, reporting that there were no injuries quickly followed. There weren’t many links included on the page that related to the story. However, the one link that was there was a video that helped reinforce what the article covered. Other related links lead to topics on Afghanistan and the Afghanistan war. The commentaries on the CNN article were different because they described different accounts of what happened. Some discussed people were still going to the polls to vote while others came from candidates in the election.…

Osama’s father was a huge influence on his life. His father was a businessman and his name was Mohammad Bin Laden. Mohammad was a man of self-discipline and was very strict. He built a palace for the future King of Saudi in 1948. Mohammad was well respected in Jidda for all he did for them. Although Osama was a young boy, Mohammad treated him like an adult. After Osama’s mother, Mohammad married twice. Unfortunately, he was killed in a plane crash in 1967. Nearly ten thousand people attended Mohammad’s funeral. The modern media is the principal source from which we hear about international and national issues that are going on in our world today. Although the media is a potent source of information, not everything reported is necessarily credible or factually correct. Many factors such as what region of the world the media source originates from and who is reporting it cause there to be bias in what we read in newspapers, online articles, and what we watch on television. In many countries, for example Iran, the government controls the media, causing certain facts to be left out and others included as the government sees it. How biased the media source is relative to the background of the country reporting it and sometimes even their perception of the other country as a whole. All of these factors ultimately lead to the bias we see in modern historiography. In recent news, newspapers from the United States, Taiwan, Qatar, and Israel report on the recent Syrian anti- government protests, during which seventeen protestors were killed. Each source puts its own twist on the issue, or in other words, its own bias. Often, it is only by comparing news sources from countries both in the same region as Syria and those on completely different continents can we truly pinpoint the bias and differences in how issues are reported.…

The assassination of Osama Bin Laden occurred due to cultural reason; however, it was justified. Osama Bin Laden discriminated against americans, he caused one of the most horrific terrorist attack in american history which is 911 and he killed up to 2977 people in one day. Critics, however, some may argue that the assassination was unjustified, due to the Persian Gulf war also known as Operation Desert Shield where american troops invaded Saudi Arabia and killed over a 1000 civilians and injured even more this is a valid reason why Osama Bin Laden would have a vendetta against the american nation he said “just like you kill us, we will kill you”(Mary Cummings2).The assassination of Osama Bin Laden occurred on May 2, 2011 over ballistic trauma…

It seems there are few people on the planet who are as qualified as Peter Bergen to tackle as complex a task as explaining al-Qaeda to the masses. It is a feat he has clearly accomplished though, evidenced by the fact that the book became a New York Times best seller, was named one of the best non-fiction books of 2001 by The Washington Post, and has been translated into eighteen different languages. Bergen has traveled extensively through Afghanistan, Pakistan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia to report on bin Laden and Al-Qaeda. In 1997 Bergen brought the Western world bin Laden 's first television interview as a producer for CNN. It was in this interview that Western audiences first heard bin Laden’s declaration of war against the United States (1).…

In order to fully understand the true significance of the death of Osama Bin Laden, one must understand who he was and what he did. Osama Bin Laden was born in 1957 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He was the seventh of fifty children. He was briefly raised by a strict father, who ordered his children to become self sufficient adults at a young age. He would also enforce very stern religious rules, that kept each of his children devoutly practicing the muslim religion. Osama’s mother soon divorced from his father, causing Osama to move far away from his dad. He grew up to be a very smart and wise person. When the soviets…

    * 2. This speech is basically about President Obama ordering Seal Team Six to infiltrate a compound in Pakistan where Osama Bin Laden was hiding; ultimately resulting in his death. Obama tells how he was collecting Intel for 4 months before he finally felt like he had enough evidence to make a move on Bin Laden; a man who was believed to be behind thousands of murders in Afghanistan and a leader of the terrorist group Al Qaeda. He has evaded capture for the last ten years and was finally brought to justice. This event is significant to everybody because it symbolized a big blow to terrorism in America since he was believed to be one of the conspirators behind the bombing of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. This was a huge accomplishment for the Obama Administration, so he goes on to make many comments on the patriotism of these men in Seal Team Six, and that the death of Bin Laden lets Americans know that we need not fear terrorism…

The event this writer wishes to discuss is one that happened in my hometown, a year after the 9/11 terrorist attacks: The DC Sniper. The snipers were eventually caught, after a three week killing spree which left 10 people killed and three others injured, in the DC area. There was speculation that John Muhammad had sympathized with bin Laden and was supportive of the attacks on the Twin Towers and The Pentagon . His partner in the sniper shootings, John Lee Malvo, was only 17 at the time of their killing spree.…

For this assignment I chose two of the most popular weekly news programs. The first was “Meet the Press” from my local NBC affiliate out of Chicago on March 2nd Sunday morning. It was hosted by Chuck Todd and aired at 10am. The second was from my local Fox channel also based in Chicago and was “Fox News Sunday”. It was hosted by Chris Wallace and aired at 9am on March 2nd Sunday morning. I chose these two shows due to the fact they aired at approximately the same time, on the same day, and therefore were in direct competition. Additionally Fox news is generally regarded to be a conservative based network, while NBC and their affiliates are generally considered to be influenced by liberal ideas.…

One of the news stories that I was paying attention to on both channels was about three bodies found in Cleveland, OH. I found this story depressing because I cannot figure out why anybody would want to kill someone else or themselves. WNEP spent 3 minutes covering this story and was not as informative as the 5 minutes that WBRE spent on it. They both had some interview with people at the scene.…

On September 11, 2012, American Ambassador Christopher Stevens was attacked in Benghazi, Libya (BBC, pars. 1). Along with Stevens, three other Americans were killed, and the American Consulate was set on fire (BBC, pars. 1). The ambassador was still breathing when Libyans found him inside a room in the American embassy (BBC, pars. 1). They pulled him out and drove him to the Benghazi Medical Center where a doctor announced his death (BBC, pars. 1-2). A Libyan doctor believes that Stevens died of severe asphyxia caused by harmful fumes from the fire (BBC, pars. 2-3). Four days after he died, CNN found Stevens’ personal journal and displayed the contents of his journal on the news (Fox News, pars. 1). The Huffington Post explained CNN’s use of Christopher Stevens’ journal “disgusting” (Fox News, pars. 3). Also, Glenn Beck, a network producer, has a theory of what the actual truth of the attack may be (Beck, pars. 2). Lastly, President Obama chose to appear on television in front of millions of viewers instead of discussing the recent events in Libya with other foreign leader (CBS, pars. 9-11).…

Media is a term used by any organization, commercial or other non-profit organization, public or private, official or informal, to publish news and transmit information. It is also a set of communication channels used to disseminate news. Media is known as the main social means of communication with the masses.
