She wanted to become known for something amazing. She wanted to inspire others. Amelia had a goal to be the first women to fly across the Atlantic Ocean solo. "In 1932, Earhart was alone in the cockpit when she flew her own plane across the Atlantic, becoming the first women ever to do so and setting a record for speed as well" (Markey 157). This was a major event in Amelia's life. "She became the first women to fly solo across the Atlantic" ("Earhart, Amelia."). Amelia didn't stop there. She was determined to set a new record. Amelia wanted to be the first women to fly around the world. "In June 1937, Earhart and navigator Fred Noonan left Florida on a round-the-world flight" ("Earhart, Amelia."). Everything was going perfectly. It was all smooth sailing until one day in July. "She and her navigator were in the final leg of the trip when, on July 2, 1937, their twin-engine Lockheed Electra simply disappeared" ("Earhart, Amelia."). She never gave up, and she was determined to become a pilot that goes down in history. She trained hard, and didn't let people get to her. She successfully filed solo across the Atlantic Ocean, and was the first to do so as a women. She then decided to attempt to make a around-the-world flight. Unfortunately, she and her navigator disappeared somewhere near Howland Island in the Pacific. Even though she didn't make it, her legacy has inspired millions. Amelia Earhart deserves a national holiday. I strongly suggest to make July 24 a day to remember Amelia's greatest feats. This day will be exactly what Amelia would have wanted, a day for women to be inspired, and to know they can do anything they want to do in life.
