Prior to European exploration, there were already many other explorations going around the world. For example, we have the Vikings of which people have theorized that they indeed discovered America centuries before Columbus actually did. There is one further piece of evidence that displays even more people discovered America before Columbus: Chinese pottery that were not indigenous to the people at the time. However, even though Columbus did not discover the Americas first, European Exploration still had a more immense impact within their world and our modern world today.…

Hey Virginia, there is more than just a Santa Claus. Nowadays, Americans have either forgotten or ignored Christmas traditions put in place over 1500 years ago. They would rather indulge in the gifts and shopping to please their family than sit back and enjoy the holiday. This new mindset has led Christmas, Hanukkah, and other seasonal festivals to lose their religious intent through the past centuries by the hands of both people and markets. The original purpose of Christmas, celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, has been trampled and overshadowed by a marketeer’s interpretation of how to represent the holiday. Santa and snowmen have become the faces of Christmas, instead of the Son…

A great work of art that has a great impact on my life is the novel A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickson. The story tells of a cold hearted, selfish business man named Ebenezer Scrooge, who is visited by his deceased business partner Jacob Marley and three ghosts on Christmas Eve. Jacob Marley who chained tells Scrooge that he should change his way or he will be punished in the after life. Marley beged for Scrooge to be given a chance to change. The ghost’s job is to persuade Scrooge to change his ways to avoid punishment in the afterlife. The three ghosts show Scrooge past, present, and future events that help Scrooge realize he is wrong and changes Scrooge into a better person. The story has had an impact on my life in many ways. The story taught me that a person’s behavior is a product of their past. If a person is unkind, it is the events that happened in their past that has made them who they are. It’s a reminder that showing compassion toward unkind people can make them a happier. The story has also taught me to treat people with kindness and respect. Lastly the story has taught me to always help the less fortunate because a little kindness can change a person's life.…

"Coventry Carol" is an English lullaby sung in the 16th century mystery play The Pageant of the Shearman and Tailors. It tells the tale of Mothers mourning the soon deaths of their children during the Massacre of the Innocents, a biblical and historical event where all infants under the age of two in Bethlehem were killed. The Coral itself is a Renaissance piece as it contains the stylistic aspects of the time period such as: cantus firmus, counterpoint, as well as Picardy 3rd.…

I think your thesis and introduction grab your reader’s attention, it sets a specific tone and allows your readers to anticipate the story of what it means to be selfless or the sacrifices made by others to enjoy Christmas. Tachala, you introduced a thesis in the introductory paragraph and reworded your thesis in the conclusion paragraph; which is great. Your narrative included a few chronological order phrases or words; keeping your readers interested in the story. However, your paper, “Christmas: A season of selflessness and Sacrifice is missing transitional words to give your ideas together. Without transitional words, your paper lacks strengthening coherence throughout the narrative. Your sensory details were well planned, I could imagine…

Throughout the course of history many different empires have been formed. Of these empires, the Carolingian Empire is one that really intrigued me to learn more about. The knowledge about the empire is easily retained. Though the information was easy to grasp, it did cause me some problems. While reading about this historical empire I overlooked some very important actions upheld within the empire. Initially, I thought that the information presented in the book was all credited to Charlemagne. Though the majority of the greatest years of the empire occurred under Charlemagne, it did not fully explain the empire itself. Most of what was accomplished was carried out inside of Charlemagne's realm, but he alone did not form the empire himself. The groundwork to the empire was taken care of by the Carolingians who controlled the Frankish realm at this time. The rise and fall of the Carolingian Empire can be attributed to the decisions of those in power and the many government reforms enacted.…

I believe there can actually be any number of characters in this short ghost story. My reasoning is, just like 'A Christmas Story', the man, just like Scrouge, was going to bed and could have been carring around a lot of wrongs that he did to people. Instead of these wrongs coming to haunt him, like the ghost of Christmas past, the worry that had been eating him up inside carried over to his hair piece, or wig, and with each worry or wrong he did strands of his wig turned white. The white coloring, would be the ghost of his wrong doings and is a visual representation of the hurt and pain he may have caused someone by his actions. If this is the case, the tone of the story would be sullen and sad because, looking at the wig would show how…

I listened to a CD for my first written report. I chose to listen to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Christmas Eve and Other Stories. It was produced by Produces by Paul O’Neill and Co-Produced by Robert Kinkel. It was produced in 1996 by the Atlantic Recording Corporation and manufactured by WEA Manufacturing Inc. The album had a mix of vocal and instrumental versions of easily recognizable, and some unfamiliar to me, Christmas music. There were 17 tracks in all.…

What is your favorite holiday? Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, New Years? I bet if you asked anyone from New Orleans and the surrounding areas, their answer would be Mardi Gras. “Party Gras” is the preferred name for most college students. Although the weekend before Mardi Gras day is actually one continuous party, there is a much deeper meaning to my favorite holiday. Carnival season is full of rich culture, history, and happiness. From the mayor’s toast to Rex, King of Carnival at Gallier Hall , to the Zulu King, to Bacchus and Endymion, to the meeting of the courts of Rex and Comus at the Ball of the Mystick Krewe of Comus, to the flambeaux and the St. Aug marching band, Mardi Gras history has always been a fascination of mine and part of my life.…
