Art therapy is a very powerful tool that is used by therapists for a lot of different groups to help them either with a traumatic event in their life or similar circumstances along with providing a sense of well being and purpose to an individual. There’s a wide variety of activities that can be done with art therapy for seniors that give them something to do that offers entertainment and purpose that works well with groups or individually. Art is no longer just for elementary school children, but everyone can benefit from it.

The action of creating art can offer a calming and peaceful effect all on its own. It also offers physical fitness when it comes to the dexterity of being able to paint a beautiful picture or create a vase. It can be therapeutic to be able to create something out of nothing, and put your own twist on a landscape or famous work of art. Visiting museums or exploring the art of the other seniors can be very calming all in its own. It can be a very contemplative and thought-provoking journey.     Although I am not artistic in the painting or music sense, I am artistic when it comes to solving problems differently. This will allow me to solve problems that arise that do not fit the cookie cutter solution.
