Gymnastics all started with Johann Christoph Friedrich Gutsmuths, “The Grandfather of Gymnastics.” Muths was the German Founder of gymnastics. He came out with gymnastics for schools in the Nineteenth century. Muths has wrote numerous books and manuals about gymnastics and exercise. Women’s events are the floor exercise, balance beam, uneven bars, and the vault table. Men’s events are floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, vault table, high bars, and parallel bars. Female gymnast use grips, chalk, wear leotards, and sometimes grip socks. Grips are what gymnast use on the uneven bars to help them grip and stay on the bar, better than having your naked hand. Grips are a thin piece of leather that have two finger holes( one for middle and one for ring finger) with leather piece going down the palm of the hand, wrapping around the wrist. The come in numerous sizes and widths. You put chalk on your grips, so the chalk mixed with a little water will help the grip on the bar. A leotard is what a female gymnast wears while doing gymnastics. A leotard is a tight piece of fabric that fits like a one piece bathing suit. Females can also wear tight shorts during practice, never a competition. Gymnast have to wear tight clothes because if they were to wear baggy clothes, it would be in the way and interfere with their skills. Finally, female gymnast wear grip socks for an event like beam. Beam grip socks help you not slip that much compared to wearing nothing. They can sometimes cover your toes ,but most do not. You mainly see grip socks in higher levels and the Olympics.
