Polar Bears
What animal comes to mind when you think of the arctic? Well in this case it would be the polar bear. Polar bears are the white furred, cold climate type of bears, incase you didn't know. In this paper you will hear about the polar bears hunting methods, mating process, baby bears, and humans killing these animal.
Polar bears live in the arctic where it is very cold. Luckily they have a “coat” to keep them warm. Polar bears have something called blubber, its acts as a coat on their bodies. They live in the arctic in nineteen different subpopulations such as Alaska, Canada, Norway, Russia and Greenland. They stay around the edge of packed ice because, these areas are where seals come up the breath.
Polar bears are carnivores, which means they eat meat and a lot of it too! Their main food source is ringed and bearded seals. The plump young baby seals are the polar bears favorite kind to eat. When eating a seal they prefer the blubber instead of the skin and muscle. So, they leave it for other animals to feed off of. Just one seal will satisfy a polar bear up to eleven days! Mating isn't as easy for the bears as it is for others, the males have to fight for the female. They confront the other with their mouth wide open showing their canine teeth. If neither retreat, they fight. They fight on their hind legs and wrestle, biting one another. Sometimes this results in loosing teeth or receiving wounds.
