Informative Speech About John Blake Family
Today I talked to my grandma Elizabeth Regan whose maiden name is Blake. I asked her some questions about our family history and found out some very interesting information.
My great great grandpa John Blake lived in Clark County, Ireland. His family and him lived on a farm that they spent most of their time working on. Eventually they decided to immigrate to America, the main reason for this is because of the Great Famine or the Potato Famine. John had eleven siblings, the oldest named Bill, was in the army. One day when John walked into the house after doing chores, he saw a man hugging his sisters and John got upset, ran outside, and told his dad. John and his dad went into the house and then John’s dad started laughing because that man was his older brother. John did not know his older brother because he left before John even knew who he was and there were no phones like there are now so they had never talked before.

John’s parents put Jimmy in the wagon and headed towards Waukon to get medical attention, unfortunately Jimmy did not make it to Waukon. The cause of Jimmy’s death was appendicitis, this is a very common diagnosis, but back then more people died from it due to poor technology.
All of John’s family came over to America except for the younger siblings, they stayed in Ireland with their grandparents. John and Mary lived in Chicago for a few years, they had two or three kids while living there. John worked at a hotel called the Palace Hotel and Mary stayed home with the

The objective of this lab was to figure out which has a higher cell respiration rate between crayfish and elodea. In order to figure this out we first set up three beakers to represent our control, elodea and crayfish and filled them with 75mL of culture solution which were dechlorinated making the solution acidic. We then had to place both the elodea and the crayfish in separate beakers filled with 25mL of water. The increase in volume of the water would represent the volume of the two test subjects. We then covered each beaker with plastic, but for the elodea we placed it under a can so it could be in the dark. After waiting 15 minutes to allow them to respire we took it out and add four drops of phenolphthalein, which was also acidic, to both beakers. Once both beakers got their four drops we added drops of NaOH, which was a base, until the solution turned pink. Our results were that the respiration rate of the crayfish was higher than the elodea.…
