Introduction
I. Anywhere you go, there is a good chance there will be a fast food restaurant nearby. A. It’s the easy way out of cooking dinner, or grabbing something fast because you didn’t have time to make anything. B. Fast food may taste good, but have you ever thought of the effects it has on your body, and wallet?
II. For the past 92 years fast food has become a popular choice of breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
III. However, the effects it has can be negative for health, as well as money. A. Because of the amount of fast food that is consumed, it has increased the rates of obesity in America.
B. Americans also spend billions a year on fast food alone.
IV. Tonight I will be informing you of the history of fast food, the effects it has on your body, and the effect it has in America. Beginning with the history.
Body
I. In 1919, A&W opened becoming the first fast food restaurant. Not far behind was White Castle which opened in 1921.
A. Although A&W was the first to open, some still argue that the first was White Castle. 1.White Castle had a big impact on the way Americans felt about eating ground beef. 2. According to the “History and Heritage of White Castle”, Americans were hesitant because of a book called, “The Jungle” written by Upton Sinclair in 1906 3. The book identifies meat packing industries to be unsanitary B. This caused the founders to set out and make their goal to change the way Americans looked at a hamburger
1. They made the exterior of their restaurant with white porcelain enamel, and the employees wore clean white uniforms to invoke a clean feeling environment for their customers.
