Not all woman turn to the media to view themselves as beautiful, according to healthresearchfund.org “80 percent of women who say that woman on television shows tend to make them feel more bad about themselves.”
Many women, who are encouraged by the media to look to a certain way are often lead to unhealthy ways of achieving this goal.
This includes anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. Anorexia nervosa is a disease that leads woman to see themselves overweight when they really are not. Bulimia nervosa is more extreme than anorexia because it leads an individual to starve themselves or eat great amounts food lead by vomiting.
Although not all woman are lead to such measures an negative effect is presented on justsayyes.org which stated that on a study conducted 3 out of 4 women said they were overweight when only 1 out of 4 actually were.
