In 2016, it was predicted that 1,685,210 people in the U.S. would be diagnosed with cancer. Additionally, 595,690 of those cases would be fatal. You yourself probably know at least one person who has, or has had cancer. There are many different types of cancer, and it can start anywhere in your body. Cancer can not be prevented altogether, but my taking certain measures you can decrease you chances of getting it. All together, cancer is a very broad topic, with different stages, side effects, and treatments.
To begin, there are many different types of cancer, but all types occur when cells divide uncontrollably, and it can start from any point in your body. Cells in your body …show more content…
Surgery is a good way to attempt to cure cancer in some people because they can see where the cancer has spread, they can remove the cancer, and put in devices to help someone fighting cancer. Chemotherapy is using different types of drugs to cure cancer. There are many different types of drugs that can be used, and it depends of what kind of cancer you have and what stage. Radiation is used to kill cancerous cells by using certain devices to send large amounts of radiation to the tumor and or cancerous cells. There are many side effects to getting cancer treatments, and they could differ depending on what type of treatment a patient receives. Some general side effects that could occur while getting any treatment are anemia, appetite loss, bleeding and bruising, fatigue or pain, memory or concentration problems, infection, nerve problems, and many more. Many people feel very fragile and tired when getting treatment. Also, some cancer patients take extra measures to not get sick by wearing medical masks that cover there nose and mouth. There are so many ways you can help support in the fight against cancer, big or small. Every small act of kindness helps. The most popular way you can help is by donating to the american cancer society. You don’t even have to donate money you can donate cars, or clothes to the american society discovery shops. Another really fun way to get involved is to volunteer with the american cancer society. There are also many runs and marathons that are fundraisers for cancer. I have personally done a couple of these, and I have met so many amazing people that shared their stories with me. One other common way you can donate is by buying clothing or merchandise where a part of the profit goes to cancer research and other
